Putting morals and what 'you were raised with' aside, I would not get hitched for the sake of the kid (Actually, I did, and now with a four year old and a 7 month old, I'm getting divorced.Live and learn :)) Just don't marry for the wrong reasons.
Look into any other state aid that may help you for school and daycare.
Just by defacto, you get more assistance in being an unwed mother. Yeah, it sucks, especially those wives who have deadbeat husbands, but maybe that is the way to go. Mind you, this country is "pro-family" If you love each other, and you both love the 'confirmed' bundle of joy, then it shouldn't matter if you two are married or not. One can not be married and be successful parents, and one can be married and be absolutely horrible ( ... )
