New York photos! Snow photos! And a cosplay inquiry?

Feb 17, 2010 00:42

So Cliff and I went to New York! And it was AWESOME. Photos give a pretty accurate summary.

The flight there was EPIC SHORT. I mean, really, 2 hours?? We could have watched a long movie and still not seen the end. We both watched an episode of The Big Bang Theory (Cliff on his iPhone and me on his iPod Touch) and then napped on each other.

I looked like death in this picture, but Cliff looked adorkable, so I am smiley'd, but I left his big, goofy grin for all to see.

The answer is yes. We WERE that couple that asked a stranger to take a photo of ourselves on the BUS to Manhattan. Lame, I know. Cliff's idea. Obviously. Also, enjoy a photo of the rare, make-up-less Katie.

The first thing Cliff and I did after getting to New York was buy street food. He'd always wanted to try that.

I put on a little bit of make-up, but obviously I still needed more.

Our delicious gyro-chicken combo platter! I know it looks disgusting, but it was FUCKING FANTASTIC. Cliff would eat this stuff every day if he worked in New York. lol

That night, Cliff and I went to his IBLC dinner/conference together because his boss had to cancel last minute. After grabbing a few cocktails and helping Cliff mingle (and, in his words, "look like a total pimp with the cute, young girlfriend"), I suddenly felt very wrong leaving him alone to go eat dinner with friends. Since I hadn't heard back from anyone but Leonard and Erica (who had to cancel), I assumed no one was going to be able to make it, then found out WAY too late that Jessie and Soni got my cancellation text WAY too late and were already on their way. (Again, I am so sorry, girls. T_T)

The next day, Leonard graciously volunteered to be our tour guide, so we walked to Go Go Curry! (all by ourselves!!! ...well, with help from Cliff's iphone), and joined Leonard for lunch.

Eet was delicious, and Cliff loved it, of course. (We shared a combo again.)

I asked Leonard to take this picture because a) I Love NY bumper sticker, and b) it showed that it had snowed a wee bit earlier in the day (LOL How IRONIC~ that I was impressed by this!)

Next we went to Spandex house to obtain fabric for Cliff's Green Lantern and Monarch and my Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. It was a pretty successful mission, but now I wish I had grabbed so much more fabric for other things...

We also hit up a pretty pimp New York comic store to get some references for GL, which ended up pushing us to go with a jungle/medium green fabric with a black/metallic green mesh over it. I hope it ends up looking cool and not incredibly flamboyant.

After that, we visited Times Square, because it's totally the touristy thing to do!

Strangely enough, I look massive in this photo. Like, 6'2 to Cliff's 6'3! LOL

There we go. Much better. It's too bad I ruined this photo with my busted face, because otherwise it'd be nice. (Well, that and Cliff's HULK HAND GLOVES make it kind of loltastic.)

Our next stop was Kinokuniya! Just because. I've actually been to places like this in California multiple times, but Cliff had never seen a Japanese-American bookstore, so it felt like a good idea.

We ordered big, frothy lattes.

I tried to be like Mer and take cute pictures of my food, but it just... doesn't work for me. XD

From Kinokuniya's cafe, you could totally see Bryant Park.

And it was set up for FASHION WEEK!!

Cliff obviously found this cool, because he took a lot of photos of it.

KAGO AI POSTER MADE ME HAPPY!!!! Note crazed, fangirl eyes. They scare Cliff. 8DDDDD This is kind of the photo I want Lloyd and Velvy to get signed for me. *_____________* Do they let celebrities sign personal items, or do you usually have to buy their event merch?

Next we visited a huge, gorgeous NY mall because Leonard needed to pick up a book. We also went into a Best Buy and enjoyed some glorious HD and blu-ray.

The Lincoln Center was our last tourist-y stop.

This picture might look like we're doing something romantic, but I was actually just trying to warm Cliff's frozen ears. He'd broken his $5 ear muffs a few hours earlier. :( Arghhh, my DERP face ruins it. (I was talking to him and not actually posing.)

The fact that Leonard could capture THIS MUCH LIGHT without a flash in total darkness amazes me. AMAZES ME. It's blurry because it was cold and windy as fuck. You can tell from my face that I am not very comfortable in the cold. XD

We grabbed dinner at a swanky sushi place that I really liked (since Michael, Cliff's boss, told him to take me out someplace nice and it'd be on him, we actually raked up a $100 bill by the end of the night! I have NEVER done that before with just two people. @_@).

After dinner, we grabbed dessert at an adorable cafe that was pretty much dessert-central. I got Amaretto Tiramisu and Cliff got pumpkin cheesecake. Leonard got a soda. XD I wish I'd taken pictures because it was a REALLY cute little establishment (but ridic crowded, holy crap).

After that, we parted ways with our amazing tour guide and made it safely back to our hotel.

The next day, we decided to explore New York since we were in such an ideal spot to do so. We walked down 5th Avenue (admiring all the designer stores, but not actually going in to any of them) all the way to Central Park! On the way, we stopped at the Rockefeller Center.

Cliff.

Some big, awesomely ornate church. Did not bother to identify. XD

Like I said, shit was ornate!

Atlas statue

Then, like I said, we continued on to Central Park!

Cliff: Pose here in front of the horses!
Me: You mean the horses we're not actually going to ride?

I think I was like... biting my tongue, maybe. Weird smile looks weird.

Way to look like an awkward tourist, Cliff.

Next, we went to FAO Schwarz because Cliff is adorable and still loves toys.

I made him do a Han pose with Lego-Chewie.

Cliff with Lego-Batman. They look about the same size here because Cliff was on his toes.

When actually, Lego-Batman was about 6'4 and probably had a 38" waist. lol (ALL MUSCLE.)

Pointing to New York!

I was going for "Sassy Hogwarts Professor" but I just look like I'm imitating a Wicked poster.

Cliff just looked like an enormous dork. XD

Cliff loved all the movie-replica props. He wanted them on his desk in his office. XD

Clifton with Clifford.

My Cliff is way cuter.

I don't know what Cliff was trying to get a picture of, but the background caught all the light. ;_;

Reading the NY Times!

I did actually really enjoy an article about Phillipinos killing each other over karaoke. :D

One of the last things we did before leaving was visit Grand Central Station. It was really beautiful. :O

My handsome man.

The ONLY time I used my camera the whole trip. @_@

Cliff photographed the strangest things...

That's not how you eat Biscoff, boo.

So that was New York! I apologize for the terrible photo quality, but 90% of these were taken with Cliff's iphone, which does a pretty damn good job considering!

Now onto the second part of this post! Remember all that snow slamming the North? Well, strangely enough, we got some, too! Possibly around 4-5 inches!!! (I know half of you are like "BIG DEAL, KATIE", but you have to understand- it usually snows in Auburn once every 10 years... and it just snowed LAST YEAR. Apparently, thanks to global weather change, it's probably going to be once a year from now on.)

Since last year, I had Cliff to play in the snow with in Auburn, it was a lot more fun. This year, I had no one to call and play with, so I went outside and did this in my boredom:

The letters were probably about 6'-8' tall. A huge group of sorority girls walked by and were like "Wut?" so I told them, "My boyfriend couldn't be here." and half of them went "awww~!" then the second half that walked by and didn't hear the story were like "omg, ughh." I chuckled.

Since, like I said, I have no one to hang with in Auburn, I decided to drive straight to Atlanta in the snow (before the snow falling on the interstate turned to ice), which turned out to be not as scary as one might think. When I got there, I hung out with vampirate777 while waiting for Cliff to get off work. And we made a snow lady!

First we took pictures of each other-

My nose is so pink!

Then John got off early from work and took pictures of us together with our creation.

BOOB-GROPE! (I promise we are not greasy and sweaty! We are wet from the snow!)

She looked kinda creepy from afar. XD

I love snow. I'm glad it's going to probably be a more common occurrence now. Not that I think global warming is fantastic or anything. It's pretty horrifying. lol

That night, we went out to dinner at Taco Mac with Mary, John, Ashley, Daniel, and Patrick, and Cliff and I acted like total children and had epic snowball fights as we walked from the parking deck to the restaurant. On the way out, we took it a step farther, and decided to make peace long enough to throw snowballs at everybody else. It was ridiculously funny to watch Danny and Cliff fight. XD

On Saturday, Cliff and I went to Hancock's with Mary and picked up patterns for his Granado Espada, and silk for me. (I was originally going to go with Dupioni, then I decided that the texture would be overbearing and went with Shantung instead. I'm using the matte side because I still want a LITTLE texture. Hope I don't regret it. XD) We also went by Mary's comic store, and Cliff picked up a Green Lantern... uhhh... Amecomi-equivalent-of-a-graphic-novel (what is this called???) about Hal Jordan. (I am so excited about this costume.)

Sunday, we had an amazing day together, and I loved the salsa class. It was a lot of fun. The basics were actually way easier than I thought they'd be, so Cliff was annoyed at how quickly I picked it up when he's been to classes before and was really struggling. :( He kept missing the teacher's cues to do turns, so I would end up leading so he didn't miss the turn completely. >_> Poor thing is just not very coordinated.

That night, he somehow convinced me to stay the night again instead of driving back that evening, so for the second time in a week, I rushed out of bed at 6:30 am and made the 2-hour drive into Auburn for my 8 am class. Note to self: stop letting my adorable boyfriend convince me to give him one more night of snuggling. ;_;

Finally, I need help with something cosplay-related. Cliff and I are really starting to think that Megacon is doable, so Cliff and I went thrift store shopping Sunday and found a blue suit for Phoenix. However, it's really not royal blue enough. I had the brilliant idea to OMG DYE IT, LOL! Then I realized hours later that not only can you not wash a suit in the machine, you really can't wash a suit AT ALL (dry clean only and what not). So has anyone EVER dyed a men's suit without disastrous results? I know, it sounds insane, but at the time, it just seemed so simple. Just dunk it in a bath of the dye, hang it to dry, and steam it back into shape. Right? No? Never ever? When I asked my costuming professor and our costume shop manager if it was possible, they acted like I was pretty much out of my mind. Mrs. Tracy also ix-nayed my clever idea of putting the blue dye mix in the steamer and STEAMING the suit blue (she said that would be about as bad as spray-painting it blue???). So thoughts? Opinions? Especially from those who know more about Men's tailoring/fashion than me... o_O
