Kate --

I'm sending out help yelps, and you're at the head of the line. (I also asked Bogdan if he could rec a real-live FA mod.)

I seem to have lost my ability to post on Fictionalley in a readable. form. You probably know the difficulties I had w/ the html-ing on Ch 21. I got some help, and was able to resubmit, and get those corrected.

I'm completely stumped for Ch 22. None of the earlier settings held. And by going through the procedures that corrected Ch 21, this twice, I was only able to correct the problem w/ quotation marks. It didn't correct apostrophes, elipses & dashes. I've appealed to unrequitedangst, who helped me through the first time. But if that doesn't work -- and I've spent hours on it -- I'm wondering if I can ask a favor ( ... )

Of course Avus. I'll try to help. I've never submitted anything to any web site, but if you detail the procedure one needs to follow, I'll have a go as soon as I receive the file.

Just out of interest, let me know also what version of Word you are using - I have both Office 98 on my PC and Office 2000 on my Mac, so something should work.

If it does work, do you want me to re-submit chapter 21 for you? Or can't you submit/amend a previous chapter?

Get it to me at my email address: kate.morrissey@which.net

Fingers crossed. By the way, I'm pretty good at Word - given courses on it in the past, and I'm an 80 wpm typist, so if you ever need any help with the typing of your chapters, just let me know. I would be more than happy to take on the tedious task of preparing the chapters for the web once I know how to do it.

Much love and sympathy,
Kate

From what I can determine, it's not the actual submission that's difficult. That's just cut&paste or downloading. It's getting my Word-based, Notepad-based html-ing to come out w/o garbage characters, and so unreadable. *sigh ( ... )

Just a thought - have you tried copying and pasting the Word document (complete with html tags) into wordpad? That is just a simple text editing tool which has none of MSWord's sophistication (and subsequent problems) I don't know how PC literate you are, so don't take offence if I assume you might not know about Wordpad. You can find it in the Start Menu > Programs > Accessories.

And you can save from there into rich text format too.

Might be worth a shot.

Have a nice weekend. BTW, yes, my camera worked and I have had two FREE video conferences with my daughter since I got back. Also brought back a raw throat which is still not best so have been off sick for a few days this week. Really glad your work is picking up. And I meant, sincerely, my offer to help format your chapters if you have no time. Anything to keep you posting, old friend.

Bye for now,
Kate
