A tip for those of my fellow countrymen who cannot stand this hot weather

Fill a plastic coke or lemonade bottle with water and freeze it. Then stand it in front of your fan - it's like your own mini aircon. For so long as the ice lasts. But ah-ha, be like me and have another bottle ready in the freezer for when the first one melts ( Read more... )

It is 98, sunny, and HUMID here and our air conditioner is broken. I may EXPIRE.

*sympathises* Poor you. At least the shopping malls are airconditioned. Take a deckchair with you and go shopping.

Another thing that grants temporary relief is to stick a sheet in the freezer and then dive under it with the fan blowing over the frozen water thingermajig, pointed at you. Oh, and make sure to put a towel beneath it to catch any melty/condensation type stuff to avoid the possibility of an electrical short! And I suppose it should go without saying that being naked helps as well.

I spent one miserable summer like that, and freezing wet washclothes to dab over my sweltering self as well. I loathe summer.

That sounds cool. I'll give it a shot. Right now, I'd try anying. I hate summer too. I love Autumn and Spring (in that order) with Winter a close second.

I completely understand. Our heat is unbearable when the humidity is thick. Today the heat index is 38 degrees Celsius, and I can't even handle being at the pool. Blech.

Thanks. It's okay at work as the office is airconditioned and I take my fans in with me. People have joked about me carrying them around with me, but I just can't survive in the humid heat. *wishes for pool*
