Pros: Vicki already lives in Canada. Sanctuary is in Canada (I think?) Vicki is already well versed in the supernatural. It's Vicki Nelson. That's a pro in and of itself. mmmmm Well, going by the book version as well as the tv canon, Vicki is bisexual, so it wouldn't be totally unbelievable. Tesla would freak when he found out the Vampire race is NOT extinct.
Con: I can't quite match the two women together in my mind. I might have to do some more Sanctuary and Blood Ties ep watching :)
Jessica Capshaw - Never saw the Crow tv series. /shrug
btw.. Dracula? Not familiar with it. At least away from the book and movie.
Jamie Sommers, while a very fine choice, just not the right choice for this pairing, imo.
So far, the following are on my list:
Lara Croft Sara Pezzini Vicki Nelson Barbara Gordon Clarice Starling
Mmmmmm Helen... (Huge amount of Helen/Ashley? Where? Because I totally ship them, and have found maybe a dozen stories, total, over at sanctuary_ff. Have you read geonncannon's stuff, he's written a lot of Helen/OFC?)
Me personally I'm fond of Helen/Sam Carter. I can't understand why more people aren't writing that? (I have an epic Sanctuary/SG-1 crossover in my writing journal that's too crappy to ever see the light of day, but it's fun adding little scenes when I'm bored.)
Other people I've considered for Helen are:
Dana Scully - X-Files Sydney Fox - Relic Hunter Vicki Nelson - Blood Ties (like I saw someone else had already suggested) Barbara Gordon - Birds of Prey Clarice Starling - Silence of the Lambs Sara Pezzini - Witchblade Liz Lemon - 30 Rock (because it hurts my brain a little bit :P ) And Xena and Gabrielle, of course, in some sort of Immortal!Xena AU.
Also, that other doctor in the pilot of Sanctuary. Eleanor, that she's obviously very familiar with and is having lunch with next week, and who then sadly hasn't been on the show since...
( ... )
fanfiction.net has a ton of Ashley/Helen unfortunately, and that's about it. /shrug I've read Geonn's tho and am indeed a fan. He's got some amazing Sanctuary works. However, the Sam/Helen stuff just weirds me out a bit. I think it feels like there's some transference going on, as if the subtextuality *can I make that word up?* of Samantha Carter, from 10(?) years of Stargate, is automatically being put onto her new character, Helen Magnus. Which isn't a bad thing, but putting them together seems... incestuous to me. It's bad enough with all the Ashley/Helen (which Geonn has written a few, but again, I refuse to read those), but I get a bad taste in my mouth when I think of Helen/Sam.
Sara Pezzini is indeed on my list. Good call there. Dana Scully and Clarice Starling are definite choices, as is Vicki Nelson. Barbara Gordon I had thought of, especially with the "meta" angle.
I'm definitely looking for a more mature character, not a youngster, so your choices are prime examples, ty :)
Ah, ff.net. I've tried to steer clear of that these last few years because the hair-tearing frustration in wading through so much crap for the occasional gold nugget just got to be too much. And I am very particular about my H/A, so I don't know that I really wanna know what they did to the pairing... but thanks, though, maybe the day will come when I'm bored enough to brave it

hmmm - interesting question - I've written a bit with Magnus - I love her as well - often I end up working with an original character - I kinda like historical pieces... what about a historical figure or is that too odd and real? Something about Amelia Earhart might be very interesting... ok just finished watching NIght in the Museum 2 maybe that is influencing that comment
I'm working on a barbara gordon/vicki nelson story - and BG is my fav (both from the comics and the tv show...)- so VN might work but that is IMO two very polar opposites coming together
what about a mutant? Someone Helen starts studying and well... does it have to be a "good guy" what about some of the "villains"??? ;p
Amelia Earhart has been done by Geonn I think, so I wouldn't want to step in those shoes, but it was a good idea. I'm kinda squimish about using historical figures (fallon_ash and I have had this discussion before :P ) so I don't think I'll be going in that direction.
However... Mutants. That is a fantastic idea. hmm. Or perhaps a supernatural figure. Must think more on this. Vicki Nelson will eventually become a supernatural figure, as we know from the books, but in the tv version she's just demon bait :P
As for good vs evil. Perhaps an anti-hero. And no, don't say Xena, those days are done for me :)
I did not know about the AE fic, and I knew about your real people and that historical is a fine line, I figure though from interviews with Ms. Tapping that they will be going back into Helen's past and we will see some relationships with "famous" figures (maybe...???) - plus from some of the convos on the show a lot of historical figures are abnormals (the president convo always makes me chuckle)
And I was not even thinking Xena actually, more like say catwoman (the older version since going for mature, I am prolly in the minority who liked Ms. Pfeiffer's catwoman)
Or even go wayyyyy mutant like Storm or... ok I am rambling... : )
i've only got two ideas: Dana Scully which might be a bit obvious, for me anyway, and for some bizarre reason Sarah MacKenzie (Mac) from JAG. Mac, I've found is an excellent go-to-gal for crossover fic. good luck with deciding!
Well, I'm brand new to this live journal stuff but I joined because I love Amanda Tapping SO if I could add my two cents in..have we thought about pairing magnus with an SG girl? Like, try to do some angst with Vala? Just a thought. ;-)
