Overall the show was amazing, to say the least. It was my first Depeche Mode show and hopefully not my last but in Dave's poor health lately I'm really not sure. Russell and I arrived a little after 8pm and therefore had missed Peter Bjorn and John, but oh well, not much we could do about it since he had to work. They came on not too much longer after Russell and I had sat in our seats, Section 4 Row C Seats 26 and 27. Pretty close, I couldn't really have asked for anything better without selling an arm and a leg. They opened with all their SOTU songs which, me not being a fan of the album, was kind of glad they got them out of the way first...I know that sounds terrible but it's true.
That being said I was a little worried the show was not going to be quite the same without Alan, but Dave fucking rocked the stage like it was Devotional or something. Considering how short ago his surgery was he put on a great show, filled with all sorts of the usual fanservice...;). Fly On the Windscreen KILLED me, it was just so good. I am of course biased being a Black Celebration fan, but it just sounded so good. Martin's acoustic piano version of Home was really pretty, as much as I don't like Ultra as a whole, that song feels me with all those warm fuzzy feelings. In Your Room was iffy...Dave started REALLY off key and was trying some weird effect on his voice that was just not working...but he got into it eventually. I was thrilled that they played Master and Servant, it was really unexpected and terribly fun live :).
Really, I loved all of it. I'm still kind of in disbelief/shock and haven't quite processed that it really happened, that I was really there. And FUCK YEAH I'm on the Depeche Mode website. In the tour blog, under the Boston show, you can see me in the 3rd and 7th pictures, in the centerish area.
How cool! :)
And now picspam from the rest of the show...
Some of the best hours of my life.
