Calling all Heyer fans...

So, I've just begun Georgette Heyer's Arabella. In the (somewhat probable) case that her novels become an addiction, which others would you recommend?

Well, crud. I want to recommend Fredrica (so far, my favorite by Heyer), but it appears it's out of print. I'd still recommend it, but if you don't want to go through all that for it, I liked "The Nonesuch" (which seems to still be available), too.

I've heard lots of good things about that one, but people are charging exorbitant prices for it on Amazon, since it's out of print (grrrr...). There were some ratty copies on eBay for only $0.99 -- maybe I'll splurge on one of those, just so I'll be able to read it. Thanks for the rec! :)

In the Barnes and Noble "used" section of the website, there's one for sale that's $1.99, in "very good" condition.

Of course now I'm halfway tempted to buy it, since I don't have a copy of my own... ;P

Venetia springs to mind. very nice novel, endearing strong female character. Or the Grand Sophy.

Can you tell I've read them all?

Definitely Frederica. Also, Venetia - the Baron must be played by Colin Firth. The Civil Contract about an arrange marriage is my favorite. The Masqueraders is fun. These Old Shades and its sequel, Devil's Cub, are great reading.

After scanning Amazon's list of titles for Heyer, I was shocked how few I've read. I'll have to get on that.

Hee hee...Colin Firth must play ALL smouldering British gentlemen. :) Thank you for the recs! I'd actually ordered These Old Shades after Christmas, and it just arrived. Whee! More reasons to shirk housework!

I'm late again, I know (I'll get better one day! ;)), but glad to know that your op went okay :) If it now means lying down reading books, then at least it can't all be bad!

I can't say I've ever heard of this author, though. Any good? :)

I've enjoyed what I read so far. :) Arabella was very Austen-esque, quite witty and fun. :) It was a nice, swoony romance that was blessedly free of bodice-ripping and other such stuff that gives the genre a bad name.

Oh, I've just started reading Heyer, and it *is* addictive. Venetia is good, but I think my favourite is Regency Buck, and the follow up, An Infamous Army (mind, I've only read four thus far). I really want to read Leonie, but I'm going to make use of my local library to fuel this addiction.

Thanks for the recs! I have a complete lack of self-control when it comes to books, so I'll probably neglect the housework for the next three months while I go through all of these. :)

Friday's Child is also one of the classic-est Heyers... I'm reading A Convenient Marriage right now which is also great. But definitely avoid Lady of Quality and Cousin Kate.

Hee hee, since writing the original post, I think I've read about 30+ Heyers. My husband is wondering if I'll ever stop buying them off eBay...

Anyhow, I ADORED Friday's Child! Both sweet and hilariously funny. My favorite supporting character was the sexy beast George Wrotham, who could never get anyone to duel with him because he was too good a shot, LOL. :P Anyhow, it's one of my top five, along with Venetia, Black Sheep, The Corinthian, and The Talisman Ring. I like the ones with the Alastair family too, but they get their own category. :)

Forget to say that I didn't care much for Lady of Quality either. I liked Annis well enough, but Carlton was absolutely devoid of charisma. If the hero's got to be a rake, give me a Damerel or an Alverstoke instead!
