I had once read a review citing the film Perfect Blue as a "taut*, psychological thriller" and it certainly was that. The film is about a Japanese pop-idol, who on the urging of her talent managers, begins to pursue an acting career. Hey, thanks for the reminder about Blade of the Immortal! Meg and I used to read it years ago, and I've always meant to look for it here in Japan and kept forgetting! Hopefully it will stay with me this time :P

Well, on your rec I went out and got all 3 issues of 'Doktor Sleepless' at the Local Comic Emporium, and it's Ellis at his zany best.

As to 'Perfect Blue,' I dunno. "Taut" is not a word I would use. Because "taut" implies "not fucking confusing as hell." I liked the movie a great deal and it certainly did the job of being quite intensely creepy, but it turns that corner like half or 2/3 of the way in and becomes sort of incomprehensible.
