Over the weekend, I heard a number of mentions of how various political candidates are courting the "women vote". The idea of "women" as a voting block is nothing new, of course, but I think I've finally reached saturation on it. you (the Men vote) dies sooner, on average, so I would guess there are more of us (The Women vote) than any other voting "block". Which increases the insanity of generalizations about a large group of very different people. Also I kinda want the news media to start talking about the Men vote, as it would be funny to hear and might get the message across that this is such a silly way to break up the voter blocks.

I started by trying to write satire using a discussion of the men vote as the basis .... but then I was too grumpy and tired to be funny.

Dude. So long as policy concerns specific to women -- such as laws regulating the having and using of uteruses -- are treated as marginal and "special interest", sufficiently large number of women will necessarily behave in ways that make "women" functional voting block.

That's true. Of course, the fact that things are that way also seems like a reasonable reason to be cranky on a Tuesday morning. I think the commentators I was reacting to were using "women voters" to mean "white middle class mothers", so I was reacting more to the marginalization of women who don't fall into those categories.
