I really like how you identify the complexities of the human condition. I think the analogy of rice and gold is a great observation as well. Hopefully we look for the good behind the imperfections in our relationships.

I really thought you did a good job makeing people not pity Oedipus for his mistakes but it defanitly is really weird when you read mother/wife and brother-son.

I really enjoyed your extended metaphor analysis! It is so true that often it is not the act of eating a meal that is satisfying but the relationships that are formed over a meal. It is part of our human nature to be wanted and loved, and that is exactly how the narrator in this story was feeling.
