So... I got it last night, and finished it, and all I can say is, OMG!! This book was incredible! JKR, you rock. And now, for a more indepth discussion on what happened...
So, yay! Lots of Draco! And it turns out he really isn't evil, cuz dude! Tears! And not being willing to kill Dumbledore, even though he had the threat of his own imminent death hovering over him, as well as the deaths of his family. So yay Draco! Also, some wonderful OTP moments for me... the part where Harry grudgingly admits he's obsessed with Draco and the part where Harry freaks out about almost killing him. Squee! And, much as I love Harry, he kinda deserved what he got when he snuck into Draco's cabin... well, not the breaking the nose part, but stepping on his hand, yeah. I mean, Harry *really* needs to learn a sense of personal property and privacy, cuz dude, at 16, it's no longer quite as acceptable to be sneaking around spying on people under an Invisibility Cloak.
And on to Harry. I much preferred this Harry to the one in OotP. Not a lot of angsting, and the moment where he realized that facing Voldemort was going to be his choice, not that he was being forced into it (although he is, a little, but still)... I was like, that's my boy! And I like how he's good enough friends with both Ron and Hermione to be able to be their friend when the two of them are fighting (and was anyone else really annoyed at Ron this whole book?). And the Harry/Ginny thing is a bit of a cop-out, but I've begun to like Ginny more and more, so since I won't ever see my OTP in print, I can deal with Harry/Ginny. Oh, and dude! Harry *cried*! My poor baby. And then, on a Harry-related note... wow on Ron and Hermione. I'm proud of them. They are true friends. So yay!
And finally... Snape. OMG! Ok, I suspected he was the HBP when the book gave Harry pointers on making potions. And then, when Harry found the Levicorpus spell, I was almost positive, so it was a kind of yay moment when he turned out to be, because I have been perfectly *awful* at guessing where JKR is going with her plotlines to date. And... I am unsure as to whether Snape is evil and working for Voldemort, evil and *not* working for Voldemort, or not evil.
laprincesasara thinks that Snape's evil, but not working for Voldemort. I definitely don't think he's working for Voldemort, and I'm waffling on the evil thing. At the moment, I really don't think he is evil, but then, you never know. My rationalization is, when Narcissa (and how cool was she?) made Snape make the Unbreakable Vow, and she made him promise to fulfill what Draco was trying to do if he couldn't, his hand trembled, but he made the promise. Now, some might say the fact that he made the promise at all means that he wasn't completely unwilling to kill Dumbledore, but I really don't think Snape thought it would come to that point, and I think he figured if it had, Dumbledore was in enough trouble that it might be the only way... I mean, if Dumbledore were in a situation he couldn't get himself out of, what is Snape supposed to do that would allow him to stay in Voldemort's confidence? And I think he does like Draco, so there's that. Also, if he were truly evil, he'd've hurt Harry when Harry was blindly throwing curses at him, especially because Voldemort wouldn't mind a little Harry-bashing, and Snape *hates* him. But even the last curse he threw obviously wasn't too terrible... Harry wasn't checked over by Madame Pomphrey, so he wasn't bleeding or anything, or in crippling pain. So. I don't know. But I'm leaning on the not-evil at the moment.
So those're my thoughts after having just finished the book like 2 hours ago. I tried to read through the night, but I've been awfully tired lately (might be coming down with something), and I fell asleep during the Christmas chapter, because I just wasn't that interested in that chapter. The rest was fascinating, though... But anyway, anyone who wants to talk about it, because I feel the need for squeeing and trading theories, and there's NO ONE here who's read it, IM me anytime on AIM at Evangelion1819. Well, I must go get ready... I've been lying abed all this time, and I really should get dressed and do stuff. Yay for HP6!!!
