It's an interesting thought, but I don't think Castiel would be looking so upset and yelling for Dean and reaching out like that if he'd been the one to let you. Dean's usage of pronouns is a little ambiguous--by "he" he could be very well talking about himself.

I think that to Cas it made sense, but it seemed like a weak coverup that he knew Dean would accept. If there's something Dean knows something about, it's making self-sacrifices for the good of another. You might be right, though! Regardless, I think there's a lot that happened that we'll be able to see slowly unfold over the course of the season and we will be unimpressed with some of the choices Dean made.
