Yeah, pretty much what jyn said. I usually just figure out what is frustrating me and try and work a way out of it, same with getting burned out, just find out what I am getting bored of and slowly let my character work out of it.
I agree with Jyn and Mel on this one. It is good to mix it up with another character (where you might be able to get away with without damaging anything you are working towards). I like to do a combination of "change/alter goals" and "new character".
...And now I wish I could play my gypsy all the time...:)
I limit myself to sending messages as my character to within a few days of an event. It helps me break away from him while I'm not at an event, and helps me get into character shortly before the event.
Then I set a goal that I can't easily reach, and abandon it at the end of an event or two.
Why do you think I play, or have played, three different characters at the three Chapters I generally play at? Well, sure, there's the whole Multiple Personality Disorder thing, or Dissociative Identity Disorder as my hyper-correct personality likes to correct me, but the other thing is to avoid being burned out on any one particular character. So my suggestion would be, to come up with another concept, something removed from your current character, and give it a go for an Event or two. Look at your planned Larp schedule, pick an Event that doesn't seem that it will mess up anything you've got going on, and go for it.
I would suggest maybe a dual short-sword wielding *something*, not sure why I'd suggest that though. ;-)

Play something else for a while.
Full time NPC for a while.
Usually in that order for me.
