I really wanted to go and I wimper every time I see photos.. :(... NEXT TIME GADGET! Nothing wrong with Adults dressing up. I do it all the time.. :>

I'm glad you're safe! I live far enough out on the north side that we weren't affected. We had a flood of our own thanks to the North Pine Dam, but that's another story! I'm finding the whole flooding event just amazing and bizzare, sad and I feel so helpless! Mind you, it's also heartening to hear stories of people helping.

Every time I heard of an event in 2010, there was something on and I couldn't go. GRR! My cousin and I are planning to just attend stuff this year though.

So you'll probably see us at Prometheus Bound in Feb!

:) Yeah we're fine, an island of normal amongst all this weirdness. Flossums has even been going to work most days.

Did you hear any of it on the news down your way, out of interest?

Good to hear you're all fine. I hope your families/friends/etc are doing well too!

Yeah, it's been on the news and radio for the past day or two. Today at work someone was telling me about the 13-year-old boy who told rescuers to save his brother instead, and then I realized that I hadn't talked to flossums since Tuesday morning, and I was all, "OMG, I HAVE TO KNOW IF THEY'RE OKAY!"

Yeah that story has been passed around a lot. Makes me really angry that there were children out in a car at that time anyway :( But yeah, flash flooding does happen pretty fast.

Everyone I know is safe, a few people I only know through the interwebs are in pretty dire straights (one friend saw her apartment on TV with water up to the top of her garage...so all her books, art supplies, etc are done for :() but no one hurt so far. A lot of people have just lost power. It's eerie, not much difference between people who've lost a lot and people who are fine.

Pfft. As if you'd join a group that spends their time dressing-up in historic costumes and hanging out in the park.

If you're going to do that at least make sure that you're getting offset by the student union.

I was going to ask about B12. Well done on food accomplishments. :)

Yay ty :) Yeah nearly every vegetarian product (fake meat, etc) is fortified with B12 and iron/calcium. ^^

Makes me wonder if doctors really need to be worried about it these days, the awareness and efforts to rectify it seem so good. I mean, I'm basically taught to think B12 as soon as I here the word vegan and have it in the back of my mind for vegos... and to always ask about diet when young women have anameia (for iron). Young men, by and large, don't get iron deficiencies.

Still, it sounds like you're getting a dual benefit in not only making good on a committment to change your diet but also trying and learning to create a whole new range of different meals. It's impressive. I'm impressed.

I keep typing 'vegan B12' or 'vegan calcium' into google to see what I come up with, and have been doing that for anything I can think of that might be a problem. I usually get big lists of foods that are good, then I just try and add them into the balance :). And I'm actually learning to cook for the first time in my life, it's entertaining! I totes made pasta sauce from whole ingredients the other day :D

On iron deficiencies -- I read a lot of stories on the vego comms on LJ where people went to donate blood and were refused due to issues with iron levels...I think if I keep them high and don't let them fall I'll be okay. But it does happen, and it would happen just by cutting things out and not remaining aware, I think. I've heard the phrase 'cupcake vegan' thrown about for people who turn vegan and then are too lazy to make anything but cupcakes :P. I am aiming to not do this, heh.
