Anyone who, given 48 hours to evacuate, cannot manage to get themselves out of the path of a hurricane, is a terminally stupid genetic defective. These people literally had the time to WALK out of harm's way, if they had shown the personal initiative and survival instinct of even the lowliest cockroach

Well - I think you posted this for attention - but I'll respond anyway. Even if these people did walk out of the way of the hurricane, they would have had no money for a hotel and nowhere to go. Also there are a lot of hurricane warnings that amount to essentially nothing since the storm weakens overnight - so people take a gamble each time deciding whether to spend the time/effort preparing to leave (and losing work hours, etc). And there are the sick, elderly, and infirm, who can't leave.

I do think we as a society were stupid not to have buses/carpools/airplanes in place to help people evacuate though.

i was 7 1/2 months pregnant and was not able to evacuate because of the hurricane due to the fact that i was in the hospital. 4 days later i delivered a very sick preemie son. i cant believe your utter disregard for the fact that some people honestly need help. yes i would have liked to have left before the storm. but if it wasnt for the kindness of others i wouldnt have a home or anything for my son. you are the one that needs to be shot!!!!!!!!!!
