Thanks for posting this. I wonder if there is a way to consolidate the active communities and close up the inactive ones in order to facility the collection of ongoing relief efforts - the needs of those affected by this hurricane won't go away for a long, long time.
I've been blogging here as I spot stuff from various sources.
While I was going through the communities, I noticed that only a few of them are "affiliated" with one another. Some are sister communities, like fandom_charity and fc_creations, and some have been around for a long time (mostly the weather ones). But a majority of them are self-started, and the only consolidation I've seen is different LJ users cross-posting the same announcement to many of those communities.
Hopefully this list will help in some way to consolidate efforts, or at least to make comm members aware of each other's presence.
We probably need to seperate the list into katrina specific communities, weather communities, and general aid communities. Then we can see what's active for katrina.
Mike, one of the mods for katrinarelief, has already emailed many of the owners of other katrina communities to try to "join forces" so to speak. We've heard back from a couple of people, one of whom has become a mod here.
If you were interested in helping us out in anyway, let me know. We could use some good people to help not only organize this group, but also between the various communtities.
