Biloxi

Does anyone know the complete status of Biloxi? A very close friend of mine is from there. Luckily, she evacuated all the way to Savannah, but she intends to go back home in a couple of days. Has no idea what the status of her house is. I don't know the Biloxi area very well -- are there some parts that didn't get hit as badly as others?

tell her there is no gas there.. they say in two days maybe, bring supplies for weeks if come back, no meat in most grocery stores everything spoiled..
and some places wont have electricity for months..

some parts of biloxi are no longer livable, some are so it would depend..

to find out exactly depends on how far in biloxi she lived and so on.. best thing would be call fema, red cross, or state police office to find out if its ok to return.. some places still cant go back to..

Thanks so much for your help. I didn't think it was safe for her return, either. She told me she's stocking up on provisions for her return to Biloxi, but I am just so worried. I'll pass this info on to her.

Biloxi is pretty heavily destroyed. Every casino along the coast was either sunk (Palace, Isle of Capri) or literally tossed across US 90 (Grand Biloxi, President). Every home within a mile of the shoreline is pretty much gone. About 80% of the businessess along the Gulf are gone as well, and what's left is mostly steel beams and pieces. East Biloxi was very badly hit, with several apartment complexes there and across in Ocean Springs simply gone.

Most everything from Pascagoula westward to the Pearl River isn't there any more. Check the Sun-Herald (http://www.sunherald.com) for information, that's the Biloxi newspaper that's still online. They're providing a lot of information on the situation throughout the Mississippi coast.
