Supernatural 8.20
That hug!!! It made me sit straight up. It was so perfect. Dean marched straight to Sam, and Sam was trying to apologize and justify himself, but Dean just grabbed him...Sam and Dean need to hug more (and that seems to be happening!).
So many hugs in this episode! I know Missyjack was making a chart for hugs throughout the seasons. I think with this episode now Season 8 definately is in the lead. There was 3 hugs for Sam and 4 hugs for Dean!
I also like the opening sequence. It did seem like the beginning of a horror or mystery video game. And of course Dean was very good-looking. With his hair parted and styled he looks like a gentleman. It doesn't look long enough to do that when it's in his regular look, but I guess it is. I noticed his name tag said Winchester.
I loved Dean throwing Sam the beer and it just flying by and smashing without Sam even attempting to catch it. Then he says that's why they can't have nice things. It seems like he's said that once before...or maybe that was just Jensen saying that in at a con about something that happened with Jared?
Dean gives the gun test to Sam--now we know they have their own firing range in their home--and Dean kept referring to it as home!--but Sam fails, though later he gets 'close enough'! Oh, brother logic.
Later Dean tries the test with Charlie, but she passes it. That reminded me about the 'I know people, you may be a criminal but not a killer' talk that Dean gave back in season 3 to talk that guy down, and then he tried it on Bela but she shot Sam...
This episode--despite being a lot about Charlie--was a lot about Sam and Dean. Dean taking care of Sam, the brotherly bickering, just little moments...
Though I don't really know why they ended it with Charlie saying goodbye and reading to her Mom's body. I hope that's not a sign of how things will go with Sam and Dean. I wonder if those lines of The Hobbit were meant to mean anything? Why have them read out loud otherwise? Some kind of reference to Sam and Dean living in their bunker underground perhaps? It is a place of comfort for them!
I liked that Chuck's books were brought up and Charlie thanked them for saving the world. Though I was hoping Chuck would get mentioned--in a wonder what happened to him way. Did Cas tell them that Chuck must be dead because there can only be one prophet at a time? Or was that in a fanfic I read?
Charlie has become sort of like Becky in that she is sort of a representation of fandom. Just a different aspect of the fandom. So many little moments.
I also like the goodbye between Dean and Charlie. Her saying I love you and Dean doing the "I know" line she gave last time we saw her (and from Star Wars). It was very cute. And you can love without it being romantic so I thought that was nice include it.
I don't know why Sam walked away though...just so they could set up the hug? If so it was worth it!
I think Sam and Dean did treat her kind of like a little sister. Calling her "your highness" and such. It's awesome that they're friends--they mentioned that they're planning to meet up for more role-playing/cons!
Sam and Dean mentioned that Charlie was acting strange, and I thought something was up too (to do with the case). But I guess that was just because of her recent visit to her mother?
I knew that the coroner was in on it!
I do wonder how they got african dream root so fast? They must have had some in the trunk of the impala.
Some moments I thought were weak for various reasons, but overall a good episode.
So this was just some random thoughts about the episode it seems.
I can't wait to see how the final 3 episodes turn out. There are still some things I'm iffy about that have happened, but I have faith it will be worth it.
