Supernatural 9.6

So this was a Castiel-centric episode and Sam and Dean were separated. Not as bad as it could have been, but not my favorite kind of episode. It was more Crowley and Castiel than Sam and Dean. They did a better job with it than I feared they would though.

I was waiting for Cas to be angry/upset at Dean for their last meeting--where Dean told Cas he had to go, but that never happened. He was a bit cold/reserved though. Then finally at the end Dean brought it up, and though we didn't get any insight into what was said exactly things are definitely ackward between them.

I knew Nora (and that name sounds familar--was there a girl called Nora on SPN before? It brings to mind someone who interacted with Cas too, but I'm drawing a blank) was asking Cas to babysit--though she was definitely throwing mixed signals so I don't blame Cas for his date assumption (I blame the writers for the plot bait & switch plot device). It was fun to see Dean give Cas a few dating tips in his sort of brotherly way. I thought he was going to give him a condom but nope.

Dean seemed to be trying to convince Cas that working at that store was beneath him etc. and wanted him to be a hunter, but by the end he was urging Cas to be 'normal.' Maybe because he now thinks there is no way for Cas to get his grace back and become an angel again? So he doesn't want him to get his hopes up and he wants Cas to be safe?

Though just because there is no way to break the spell doesn't mean there isn't a way to get Cas his grace back. Or that the angels can be restored to Heaven somehow (another spell? redemption of some kind?).

I had no idea who the 'monster' of the episode was. The way of killing was reminiscent of an angel, but the pink threw me. I was thinking an actual rogue cupid of some kind, but we're told it was a 'medic' angel. Ok...It makes sense except for the pink.

When Sam noticed the syringe missing I thought Crowley had taken it to use as a lock pick or to draw blood for a spell of something. He was drawing blood, but from the way Sam reacted and the scene was shot it didn't seem like it was nefarious. It was reminiscent of the church scene. So is Crowley trying to invoke his human feelings again? Or is he punishing himself somehow?

[BTW I thought at first that Sam was going to see of realize something about himself/Zeke in that moment. Disappointment. I also thought if they used Sam's blood for Crowley's call he would realize there was something angel about it. Then I thought he wanted Kevin's blood because the blood of a prophet would be useful somehow---but no.]

Crowley is the devil they know--and I don't know for sure if Hell was better under his control or if it would be better (for humanity excepting those who make deals) if Hell was in chaos...

Cas singing was kind of fun.

Not much else to say now.

The episode raised some interesting questions, and talked more about humanity and other philosophical things, but it is not a favorite.

I can't wait for the next episode as usual!
