I'm not sure what to feel about some parts of the episode. I don't think it's one I'll say I "like," but it served its purposes I suppose.
Just a few thoughts:
The beginning was well-done. Good choice for the complete silence except for the music. Really emphasized the loss and Dean's anguish.
I'm glad Sam is back to himself. And seems shell-shocked for sure. I thought they'd drag it out for 2 episodes, 3 at the most, but I'm glad he's back in control. I knew it would be happening in this episode though as soon as we saw his previous vessel as the bartender.
An interesting way to bring Sam back. To save him from possession let him be possessed by another entity...well it worked.
Gadreel lost any of my sympathy when he killed his "best friend." I thought maybe he'd change his mind, but once his friend said that the way to be content/happy (something like that) is to find the one thing that makes you happy and hold on no matter what (and make sacrifices to do it) I knew he was dead. Yup, Gadreel is a sociopath.
Sam and Dean's conversation at the end hurt. I do wonder what Sam meant by his last comment. I already can't remember what it was, but Dean questioned it to. It was something like, "Don't think that's the reason." Or "Don't think that solves things." Neither sounds right...hmmm, maybe someone can fill me in? Maybe, "Don't think that's it."
Surprisingly Dean was the one to walk away. That's a change in dynamics. Though it definitely felt right considering the circumstances. Dean's speech was one of the better parts of the episode (oh how it hurt). I feel bad for them both. Hope neither becomes suicidal--or "non-caring" if they die in the line of duty.
I wonder if we'll get to see Cas and Sam interact more? I hope so. That's something we haven't seen much. And Cas said he'd have to heal Sam in doses, so he will be dropping by if he doesn't hang around.
In the beginning I was just thinking Cas and Dean were trying to beat the other for who could deepen their voice the most...I'm tired of the focus on those two. Cas and Sam is a new dynamic.
I liked Crowley in this episode. He makes it hard sometimes to remember he's evil. I wonder if that third trial left some humanity behind?
Next episode looks good!
