What happened in this episode:
Shinpachi and Elizabeth’s girlfriend, along with everyone else on the Renho mothership, realise that Elizabeth was behind the sabotage of Gunsams and the Elizabeth rain. Elizabeth betrayed the Earth and deceived his fellow Renho to protect them all and take on Dark Vader by himself.

A battle in space between Elizabeth and Dark Vader ensues, as well as some verbal sparring, during which Vader claims that after all what Elizabeth did, Elizabeth has no friends or allies left and will die alone. Elizabeth is in a difficult situation and might lose the fight, but says some really heartfelt words.
“I’ve been lying to myself and betraying my friends. I no longer know who I am. But that is fine. I may no longer have a planet to call home, I may no longer have an identity,

And then Katsura-san heroically intervenes by slicing Vader in half with his trusty katana!

Katsura: “It doesn’t matter, if you’re in a dark place or at the farthest reaches of the universe!”

After that, a touching reunion scene follows, with tears and sparkles.

Katsura is totally synchronised with Elizabeth and can read Elizabeth’s thoughts!

However, the moment is ruined by Katsura being a dork

Vader coming back to life - he turned out to be a robot.

Robo!Vader commands the Renho army to shoot the traitor down, Elizabeth is in danger!

But the Rehno target Vader instead! Sakamoto has teamed up with them and taught them some important things about friendship. Now the Renho want to take back their home from the crazy tyrant Vader.

Elizabeth wants to offer some explanation, but Katsura-san nobly refuses to accept any, he knows Elizabeth did the right thing. Bonds of friendship are so beautiful!

Katsura-san commands the assorted allies to take Vader out, but robo!Vader is nearly unstoppable, he taunts the Renho talking about how they need him to survive and how stupid it is to destroy a planet for the sake of friends. Gin-san shows up and tells robo!Vader to stuff his opinion.

It seems that Gin-san defeated robo!Vader with his bokken and destroyed the Renho planet/mothership... But it’s not over yet - the ship transforms into a giant Elizabeth-shaped killing machine!

Elizabeth explains that it is all the fault of the central system of the mothership - it has gone insane and mass-produces leaders for Renho to rule them according to its wishes. But now that the Renho have rebelled, the artificial brain will kill them all and conquer the Earth and the universe by itself for the glory of Renho. Yep, there is a logical flaw, but the things is crazy!

Prospects look bleak, the Rehno and Kaientai can’t fight the transformed mothership. However, while Gin-san and Sakamoto talk about their balls, Mutsu has pulls an ace out of her sleeve - the Kaientai ships can combine and make a really cool mecha that’s not a ripoff of any other mecha at all. It’s name is Kaien.

The pilots get their assigned positions and the battle is about to start! Well, it would have started much more epic, if Fumiko didn’t get too excited and did not fire to fast. That’s a sexual metaphor.

“We must join out powers together in this Kaien, defeat Vader, that planet, and return to Earth with smiles on our faces!”

Anyhow, the next episode seems like an epic battle time!

Thoughts and comments:

Actually, I don’t have much to say because there is not much to analyse in this episode - everything seems to be quite obvious. Katsura is a great friend and is good with a katana, so he can even slice up robots in space. Katsura is sentimental and sensitive and is not ashamed to cry in public. Katsura is so manly and cool that even light blue sparkles don’t have an emasculating effect on him. Katsura is a great big dork and manages to make even a touching reunion look silly.

On the topic of a big dork, I don’t get the bunny thing and OC, that was supposed to be a parody of some TV commercial or something, as far as I understood... I wish the fansubs actually mentioned what that is.

Now that Elizabeth can talk, I like him a bit more because the voice is pretty good. I suppose that says a lot of nice things about Katsura that he liked and accepted Elizabeth even when Elizabeth just used the signs for communication.

Also, the Kaien song sounds like the OP in some sort of old mecha series, I wonder if that is another joke on Katsura’s old-fashioned tastes...

Any thoughts about the episode?
