What happened in this episode:

Last week’s crazy ski resort adventure continues. Okita builds a snow hut, Gin-san and Kagura are envious and destroy it. The snowstorm gets stronger, but Katsura comes to the rescue.

He found a sort of cave. It’s ok, there are no bears there.

There was only a...

Katsura left him a note in his sneaker, and Bigfoot got the message and kindly allowed them to stay in his den.

Too bad the thumbtack was still in the bed...

Bigfoot came back and took revenge for a thumbtack left in his sneaker.

Meanwhile, Otae found a nice cave too, only it was full of chupacabras. Staying there was impossible. The blizzard was getting worse and they still had no shelter. And, as if things were not bad enough, Katsura appeared, slightly damaged.

His proposal was not accepted, they move on in search for shelter.

A wild bear appeared.

Katsura decided that the best plan is to play dead, and to make sure it looked convincing, he jumped off a cliff.

Okita and Kagura used the confusion to kill their mortal enemies - Hijikata and Okita, respectively.

Turned out that the bear was the Shogun, however, due to a misunderstanding Otae kicked him off a cliff. Still, the Shogun had found a hut and everyone gathered there to hide from the cold.

Hijikata and Okita brought in a completely beat-up Shogun, who apparently had memory loss. Gin-san told him they were attacked by Bigfoot and chupacabras to explain the situation, and made it all look like it was Shogun’s fault. Sho-chan got depressed. Katsura pretended to be a force of nature who will accept Shogun’s life as sacrifice to atone, and got beaten up.

Hijikata came up with a good plan to keep warm - huddle together.

But the Shogun smelled bad and girls didn’t want to get close to him. The Shogun got naked. Okita made a disgusting joke, which I just have to screencap.

And then the guys didn’t want to get close to the Shogun either. At least not facing the censored part.

Gintoki (to Katsura): “This is your chance to defeat the Bakufu!”

They pushed the Shogun so hard he flew out through the roof, attracted attention of the rest of the Shinsengumi troops and got everyone rescued.

Thar he flies...

Thoughts about the episode:

Katsura is really the most elegant character! Did you notice how he always sat up so straight while everyone else was slouching? And in the last screencap he keeps his hands in his sleeves - he is so refined! I wonder how he got so refined... But I suppose Takasugi, who has a similar background, can also be considered elegant, in a way. So maybe that all comes from upbringing...

What made me wonder was how come he is the only one not wearing any special winter clothes? Even the Shinsengumi had them, but poor Katsura-san didn’t even have a scarf. And he was practically barefoot - it’s not like those socks and straw sandals give much warmth. And in one of the screencaps you can actually see his bare ankle. Poor Katsura-san, is he really so poor that he can’t afford winter clothing? Or, on the contrary, it has an optimistic explanation - his heart is burning with passion and that is what keeps him warm?

Also, I continue to be amazed at Katsura’s optimistic attitude and willingness to set aside their differences and work together for achieving the common goal. Bigfoot doesn’t mind their staying in his cave, of course he doesn’t! And he even provided a bed for Katsura! And how adorable was it that Katsura invited them all to share the shelter, he didn’t go “And the Shinsengumi dogs can stay outside!” Katsura-san is really such a kind person!

The thumbtacks made me cringe, not his face >_< But seems like he is not only cold resistant, but also pain resistant, so all was well.

Any comments about the episode?
