Been considering adopting a dog. I can do the walking and all, and it would be great to have a pet we can actually hug. xD My major hold up? Vet stuff. xD We got by with the cats just fine, without going to the vet, but I know a dog is vastly different ( Read more... )

Actually ask your vet. Mine has a thing where its like a credit card if you qualify they give you a set limit that pays for services an then you do payments to it like a credit card. So instead of like 5-600 dollars your doing maybe 20 a month.

Banfield I know has a medical plan that you do a monthly payment-(pretty much insurance) that pays for spaying/nuetering up to 6 months and all thier shots and gives discounts depending on the plan for whatever health problems my arise. Some have dental plan options for them too. Just have to ask your vet :)

Banfields the one with Petsmart isn't it? I've heard some mixed reviews about them, but I can always look at them. XD

Yeah, definitely shopping around.

The price depends on the vet. Ask around and see which vet will not only be cheapest but provide the best service. I am sure that you already know this but cheap doesn't usually mean good service.

What I recommend in getting a dog is to get one from a rescue shelter. Usually, they have all of the expensive stuff taken care of and you usually know right away what you get. Me and my family has so far rescued 3 dogs and we love them to death. Only one had medical issues but we knew of them right away.

Yeah, I figured cheap can be lousy, it usually is. xD

And heck no, I'd never buy from a breeder or a pet store. There's so many homeless pets in shelters these days, that you can even find pure breeds there. I'd rather go to a shelter. That way I know for sure I have a sane healthy pet, lol!

My folks got lucky to find one that is both cheap and good and it was a hole-in-the-wall clinic.

XD That's why I said rescue shelter lol! If you know what breed you are looking for, try Petfinder.com as usually it will take you to shelters. Usually. Purebreds are good and all but mutts are GREAT! XD From my experience at least. Try watching Dog Whisperer if only he has great advice when it comes to picking and training your dog.

Haha, nice. XD

Well, since we live in an apartment would probably have to be a small to medium dog. xD Well we have a 3 bedroom which is pretty roomy, but yeah. xD Would definitely have to be people and dog/cat friendly as well.
