Star Trek Movie

Entertaining. Frequently panders to the fans of the old series. Dire warning for manufacturers: in the future we lose all formula for anti-glare coatings.

Young James T. Kirk scene should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Frequently panders to the fans of the old series.

I heard just the opposite, and that it frequently attempts to instill them with wrath...

We're an easy bunch to wrathify, so I think it's all in how closely a person clings to old Star Trek.

By pandering, I mean that they added all sorts of nods to the show. Green women, green women being romanced by Kirk, the old catchphrases of various characters "Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a ________!" That kind of thing. There was a lot of Commanding Officer not on the Bridge... Many nods, bobbleheaded even. Some well done, some just kind of silly. And they pretty much came out and said "This is an alternate reality" so I'm willing to forgive the differences.

I did have a couple of moments where I was thoroughly annoyed, but that has more to do with me and my interpretations than with the movie. I had fun.

I should have brought sunglasses though.

It was quite glare-y.

I had fun with the Red shirt nod, the mystery of Uhura's first name, and with the complete "Deus ex machina" feel of things. (Kirk HAPPENS to run into spock on an isolated world. and they HAPPEN to run into Scotty on the same world.)

It felt like I was a kid again, and I was watching an episode of the original series.

I thought it very well done, except for the Uhura/Spock thing. What the holy hell fuck shit was that? Guess she likes to get it only once every seven years?

Well, there were a couple of times where Spock and Uhura got close-ish in the series, so in an alternate reality, I can see them together. At the same time, Spock was very Spock, but you'd think Uhura might have realized that a vulcan might not be comfortable with that much PDA. Good lord, I thought facehuggers were supposed to be from a totally different genre!

Different series, not genre.

Beside i wouldn't be surprised to to a star trek/aliens cross over.

A borg/alien hybrid would be pretty nasty
