I am glad you got brave and come out while all the strangers were there. I bet some of them were actually feline-friendly as there are usually some in any crowd. The trick for you is to locate those and not those who are feline-averse.

I don't think there are any cat-averse types in the group. Although one of the guys claims he hopes that some of their cats will get misplaced when he and his wife move in a month or so. (He says this right in front of his wife, so it is pretty clear that it is a joke.)
