 I've been having a facebook conversation with my friend Lauren (incidentally the only person I stay in contact with from high school - there may or may not be a reason for that...) about how *assume elderly accent* back in our day, music lyrics were much more subtle about the misogyny/abuse/inappropriate messages.

Britney Spears, much as I feel bad for her with the mental illness issues and all, has managed to "romanticise" stalking, abuse, something disturbing that makes me think "EEEK! PEDO FUEL!" and ultradependance.

And don't get me started on the Police's Every Breath You Take. o.O

Actually, ages ago there was a discussion on my LJ about songs and what people think passes for romance, and someone mentioned hearing REM's The One I Love at a wedding.

D00d. No. o.O That's about as romantic as American Psycho.

Haha, it's totally true! And to this day, I can't stand the R&B songs that spell it all out, but still kinda think those early 90s ones are romantic.
