Recipe Boxes

Recipe boxes come complete with matching recipe card dividers and recipe cards. These last items, however, aren't yet depicted below. Each box is hand painted and papered.

Panther Potables
This recipe box was made for the mother of a close friend of mine. It's themed after our high school mascot (Go Haven!) and particularly our football team that her parents are ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with! To the point that they still go to games even though we graduated six years ago. Though our school colors were black and white, this box is painted green to match their newly renovated kitchen. So don't fret Havenites, its not Ridley colors at all! The interior is decoupaged with copies of the newspaper articles that have been collecting on their fridge for as long as I've known them. Panther paws are painted along the side of the top and velvet green ribbon lines the lip of this box and is also used as an accent. The chain has been replaced by a friendship bracelet-type braid.

Blue Period
This is a retro-modern, Mondrian inspired recipe box for an client who described its recipient as "artsy"... yes that's the only description my friend, Laura, could give me *kicks her* I'm quite happy with how it turned out though! The lines in the paper chosen for the top were an odd color where I couldn't tell if it was navy or brown. So I decided to try and use both of those colors together. The exterior is painted a dark navy blue and the interior a rich chocolate brown. The two colors look suprisingly good together!

Pink Champagne
This is one of my favorite boxes. An effort in subtle extravagance, this box is lined with metallic gold paint. The paper also has metallic gold accents, making the box actually glint in the sunlight. I primed the box with that same metallic gold paint before painting a light coat of celery green. The paper used for the interior of the box makes it look as though the box is padded with fresh water pearl buttons. To hide the rough edges I used an irridescent fabric paint that has a pearlescent appearance.
