My hard drive is failing, slowly but surely. I haven't rebooted in five days for fear the computer won't start up when I try it. So if I disappear randomly and suddenly, that's probably why. Should be fixed soon enough, however, so no real worries

Doesn't care if you open the case ...
but won't warranty any parts you add. Just the originals and any that replace the originals as installed by us.

I don't like to push our warranty too much, but if you're gonna tinker, it's a damn godsend.

Yesyes. Many, many thanks. I now owe you mega-big-time. I'm down to 4-bit screen right now. Pondering reinstalling the drivers for the video card, but according to the device manager, there's nothing wrong with it... Besides, I dunno if it's worth the effort for something that's just gonna mess up again.
