Okay, so if you read SWW's journal as well as this one, you may hear some things you've already heard. That's okay, I don't mind ;p
First of all, let me just say that tazzy and I both miss SWW, kinda like we miss the kids when they stay with grandparents.
Yeah, very fun weekend. Tazzy was supposed to pick SWW up from the bus station after work, since he got off work at 2:15 and SWW's bus was scheduled to arrive at 2:45. Of course, when this was planned between SWW and myself I totally spaced that this was also Final Four weekend in Indy. Still, all went relatively smoothly, and the boys arrived back at the house at about 4pm. There was a moment of awkwardness, as neither SWW or I were sure of the hug protocols. Overprotective hubby and bad prior experience. That quickly passed (like, less than 20 seconds), and much bullshitting and such was done. SWW went through his Bag O' Goodness and brought out chocolate for us (Yay!), and showed us the Harddrive of Much Goodness. We 'ooh'ed and 'aaah'ed appropriately. Various other pieces of hardware of a different type were also showed off. Then the Star Wars Lego game was brought out to show off, and SWW started the road to a new addiction. Dinner was discussed. And discussed some more. And finally Mother Nature said 'go out now, or find something in the house.' So we settled on Ponderosa, which SWW had never heard of. Oddly enough, Friday was all you can eat seafood buffet. It's always an all you can eat buffet, but not always seafood. So we ate, and talked some more, mainly SWW and I catching up on boardie gossip, and Tazzy attacking some well-done meat.
It's worth noting that the rain went from nothing to "Okay, who's got ark duty tonight?" in less than 2 minutes, starting as we were pulling out of the driveway. Tazzy's jacket gained about 20 lbs. while we were dashing from the car to the restaurant.
After dinner we stopped at Wal-mart to see if they had Heroscape. They don't carry it except around Christmas. We got a few other things, however, including a spikeyball that the cat in me (and my daughter) couldn't get enough of. Then we came back home, and tazzy went to bed, as he had to get up ridiculously early Saturday morning and work a few hours. SWW and I stayed up til about 1am, just talking about - well, for the most part absolutely nothing, which was quite fun.
On Saturday, both the kids came home, though at differing times. Kitten got home before SWW woke up. And then he said good morning in Japanese, which really confused Kitten. I got a kick out of that. So, malling was in order to get a few much-needed items. It was much fun. More nothing-talk was had on the way there. First stop was Toys'R'Us, in which we actually found what we were looking for in under 5 minutes. Of course, we wandered the rest of the store, because it's a toy store darnit! Then we went to the mall proper, and were GOING to get foodage first, only we both got distracted by the closing sale going on at SunCoast, so we went there first instead.
Then, we lunched. And I discovered just how distractable SWW is in a mall during spring with many redheads. *evil grin* Then EB Games, where we each kept the other from spending too much money. And it was hard to do, too.
With a stop at CVS for caffeine and gifts for the Munchkins, it was home again. Pup had reportedly been a holy terror, but was currently napping, so we decided to get out Heroscape and have some fun. Partway through he woke up, so I watched him while Tazzy and SWW played a game. About halfway through which we decided we were hungry and ordered pizza from a local shop that just happens to be where I work. SWW was apparently rather impressed with it. So. He beat tazzy. Then SWW and I played a game, and I beat him. Although I was at a rather marked disadvantage at first. I neglected to think things out properly and didn't have any ranged-weapon pieces. Still and all, it was fun.
So then it was time for a battle of a different type, as Pup was still up and it was going on midnight. Tazzy ended up taking SWW to the store so Pup would calm down enough to go to bed. Which worked. And when the boys returned, they brought Peeps. Which was one of the things SWW and I had discussed the previous evening. Whether or not Peeps would work as marshmallow substitutes in s'mores. They don't, incidentally. The sugar coating caramelizes way too fast. Then, tazzy decided to see what would happen if he microwaved a peep. I sort of ruined his fun on that one by telling him that if it exploded, he was cleaning it up. Still, he puffed it up to double its normal size. The peeps we had were unusually fresh, however, so I don't know if we can really count on the results of the microwave experiment.
Then tazzy and I played Heroscape against each other with SWW reffing. It was during that game that such phrases as "Krug gets anally violated by the viking's sword" were to be heard. I swear, the game took twice as long as it would've if we weren't laughing so much. And it was 5 am before we got to bed that night. After setting our clocks ahead an hour with the help of SWW. Indiana's never done daylight savings before, so it was nice having an old hand around.
And Sunday's pretty much a blur to me. I remember much copying of music onto my harddrive, and a hug that SWW declared 5 years in the making. And it was, too. We've planned this trip at least 3 other times, only to have things come up and it not happen. And then I had to go to work, which was a bummer. Especially when I got trapped at work for an extra 15 minutes by the storm that followed SWW out of town. I'd've tried driving home in it, but I didn't want to make a dash for the car in the hail. As it was, I still managed to have one helluva lightning bolt go off RIGHT ABOVE my car on the way home.
And that is why I say SWW knows how to make an exit. And an entrance. He entered with a storm at his back, and left the same way. Of course, I doubt this really surprises anyone who knows him ;)
I only have two regrets about SWW's visit. One, it wasn't long enough. And two, I wanted to ask him to speak 133t while he was here and totally forgot to.
