B) It's tougher than we thought... see The Tennessean front page today. Main headline is about Wilson county Schools wanting to introduce a Bible class. Right next to it (in smaller type off to the side) is a stroy about the suit. We need to contact the ACLU ourselves ASAP. And, btw, have you heard back from them? I think they lied to you and they are stalling. Might be time to bug them a little bit, especially now that we know what is going on. :)
I put a call into the assistant superintendent today. He advised me that the lawyer said it would be a week or two. The lawyer also told the schools not to do anything of the sort in the meantime. So it will be another couple of weeks to be sure.
I would very much advise contacting to the ACLU directly rather than through the Tennessean. Have you tried to look at their website? Surely they have a way to report what happened at your son's school. Your posts have sparked a conversation in my household...Bret and I would raise CANE if someone handed our child a bible in school during school hours. This is also disturbing because we were actually thinking of buying a house in the Mt. Juliet area. If you need help, let me know! I'm a former university activist! Sarah Davis is too! Fight the power!
One of my other LJ friends, Gypsy_Raihana, commented about this! She lives in Lebanon & homeschools her kids, in part because of religious discrimination.
