Re-watching: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

and the "isn't the wizarding world wonderful!" tone, while perfectly summed up my reaction as a kid, was a bit overbearing 10 years later.

Good point! Although I saw a lot of that from the fandom as well, before OoTP. Meanwhile, I picked up from Chamber of Secrets that the Wizarding World wasn't the happy chocolate factory it made itself out to be, even without Voldemort. Fudge arresting Hagrid for no actual reason had me all "... yeah, this place is seriously messed up."

Robert Coltrain-- I read that this was JK Rowlings suggestion, and it was a great one. He plays big and lovable, and I loved his scene with Norbert.

The really funny thing? I actually gasped when I saw him on screen because he was exactly how I pictured Hagrid. Granted, to be fair Hagrid's not so hard to pull off, but still. And he manages to not dumb Hagrid down while still making him who he is in canon ( ... )
