It was a graveyard smash!

Is anybody planning on going to any of the participating comic book stores this Halloween for Halloween Comic Fest? Has anybody done this in the past? If so, what was your experience? I've always missed Free Comic Book Day because it's been the same weekend as Demicon. I'm hoping to make it to at least two or three stores by bus before they're all ( Read more... )

I have skipped Free Comic Book Day the last several years because I had something else going on, and I haven't really thought it was worth it the last few times I went. it's ridiculously crowded, and I think the first year that I participated (I'm so not sure which year that was) was the only one that I felt like I found something I hadn't known about before.

I would recommend going to Dreamhaven and pawing through the bins that are 25 cents each or five for a dollar. Lots of 80s and 90s era comics, and definitely a few good finds in there. I'll give you the dollar if the thrill is just getting them for free.

If you decide to do the Halloween Comic Fest, please write about the experience so I'll know if I should try some future year. :)

Yup, I already do that any time I'm in Dreamhaven and have some time to spend. I also dig through the cheap comics at Half Price Books when I'm there.

I suspect I'll do this just once unless the experience is more pleasant than your Free Comic Book Day experience. I might also do Free Comic Book Day next year since it doesn't conflict with Demicon, but that's probably going to be a one time thing as well.
