is it just me, or... does any one else find it ironic that rita (now confirmed as a catagory 5) is aimed straight for texas? if anything good comes out of this, i hope bush's ranch gets blown into toothpicks...
We're headed out in the early morning to take the back roads to only-God-knows-where, West Texas. Last I heard, the drive from Houston to Dallas (which is normally 4.5 hours) is now 34+ hours on the freeway. Many gas stations are out of fuel in this area, and mass craziness ensued about noon today.
I may not be able to call you Sunday. Our phones, land and cell alike, have been down or over-run 80% of the time. I'm surprised that my DSL has stayed up for me.
please stay safe and i am honestly at a loss for words... please let us all know if you are safe ASAP. i'm concerned about every one in that region, but i'm particularly biased about my friends safety and well-being...
We're in Killen/Temple for tonight (about an hour north of Austin). We will probably hardly see rain here. We're hoping to stay in the Austin area, but have been told by booking agents that there are no hotels available in Texas this weekend. We'll be okay, but I wonder about our houses.
We're hopefull about getting a hotel, cabin, or bed&breakfast in the morning -should some people check out.
Phones have been really weird, and gas stations with gasoline are few and far between, but we've generally stayed on the backroads and have been doing well thus far.
The times we've had to brave a main highway today, it generally would take two hours to go about 10 miles. Thankfully, we have steered clear of the more beaten paths as much as possible.
Thank you for your concern. It helped ease the stress a bit.

And I wished that very thing on Bush's ranch. It would be hugely fitting.
