7:20 am
Calvin rolled over his hand absently feeling for Nick next to him. He was gone. Calvin sighed. He had forgotten that Nick had a mission that morning to go back to P177 so Dr. Lindsay could make nice with the locals. He really hated those days when Nick went through the Gate leaving him alone. Many of the cities inhabitants were totally confused why Calvin had stayed in the city after what had happened with Weir and the torture thing. Calvin couldn’t leave Nick. He just couldn’t, besides afterwards everyone was nicer and slightly more lenient. He totally avoided Dr. Weir and no one seemed to mind. Calvin shook his head clear glancing at the clock, 7:25 the red numbers glared. He sighed again swinging around his feet hit the floor he reached for his wire rims placing them on his nose pushing them into place. Might as well get the day going, he thought and headed to the bathroom. It was going to be another lonely day.

9:48 am
Gossip traveled fast through the city. Calvin likened it to a high school, a very small one. He was in the lab when a tech came in some young overly eager hyper guy. Calvin could never remember his name.

“Have you heard?” the puppy asked.

Calvin looked at him over his glasses. “Heard what?” he asked mostly uninterested.

“Dr. Lindsay just called in an emergency situation. Major Lorne’s team came under fire. Sheppard and the team are going after them.”

Calvin’s heart sank. “Do they know anything?” He asked mildly.

The man shook his head. “Not yet. They just left so hopefully they will report back soon. I’m going back to the control room see what I can over hear.”

“Right, ok.” Calvin replied absently. Nick! The word tumbled through his mind. No, he told himself. He was fine and everything would be fine. He slid his glasses off his mind wandering swiping them with a cloth he kept at his desk and put them back on. He went back to work pushing all the dark thoughts away.

11:27 am
Calvin was walking to the mess hall for an early lunch. Really he just needed to get out of the lab. He his thoughts kept returning to Nick. He hated this. It was like this every time he went off world. Out of no where the puppy man appeared.
“Dr Kavanagh!” he called running up to him.

“Yes?”

“Colonel Sheppard has come back; it’s Major Lorne and his team.”

“What is it?” Calvin asked his patience waning.

“They’re dead,” The puppy put on a wounded look. “All they found were bodies, badly burned and their dog tags.”

Calvin was glad he hadn’t gotten to eat first. He knew in that moment it wouldn’t have stayed down. He felt his legs shake he almost lost it right there. “Excuse me,” he managed to say walking away before a response could even be considered.

The infirmary was a madhouse. Then again it usually was. Dr. Beckett was preparing the room. The bodies were on the way and he wanted to examine them as quickly as possible.

Calvin moved through the chaos going directly to the doctor who didn’t notice him at first. “Dr. Beckett?” he asked.

It was all Carson needed. He knew what the scientist wanted. Carson Beckett was well aware of the relationship he had with the Major. There wasn’t much you could hide from your doctor especially in Atlantis. “I know son,” Carson placed a hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry. Nick was a good man.”

Calvin nodded, he felt so numb. Empty. Alone. “I want to know who did this.” He stated his face set with anger.

Carson looked at him a moment. “I understand. When I’m done examining the remains I will have more answers. I will come see you when I know more, ok? You might want to see Dr. Heightmeyer, talk to her, it might help.”

The scientist nodded. “Thank you.” He left the room quickly. He didn’t think he could handle seeing the body when it was brought in.

12:07 pm
Calvin hadn’t bothered going to the mess hall. Lunch was the furthest from his mind. He couldn’t even stomach drinking anything. He was back in his quarters sitting on the floor his back against the wall. He repeatedly banged his head against it. He couldn’t stay here anymore not without Nick. It would be hell. He considered his options. He could request to be transferred back to the SGC or even going to the Daedalus. The trips back and forth were comforting. Shit, he told the room. It didn’t matter. Nick was gone. He didn’t even care anymore. The thought crosses his mind, could he? Could he just end it all? Be with Nick again in a different way? Calvin wasn’t a religious man per say but he believed in some sort of after life. He reached up to his head pulling the rubber band from his hair letting fall down. Nick always liked it better down. He sat in the dark room his head unconsciously banging the wall lightly as his thoughts wandered.

1:51 pm
Carson walked up to the door rapping lightly. Only silence answered but he knew the scientist was inside. He opened the door the room was dark. “Dr. Kavanagh? Calvin?” he said walking into the room.

“I’m here,” Calvin replied half heartedly.

Carson tried to focus in the dark sighing he turned on the lights. He spotted the man sitting on the floor his back to the wall. He had his hair down and he was looking to the room but at nothing in particular. Carson walked over to him squatting down. “Calvin?” he looked in the man’s face. “I need to talk to you.”

“Do you know who killed him?”

Carson smiled. “Yes, and no. He’s not dead, well at this point I don’t think he is. The bodies are not Major Lorne and his team. What we know at this time mostly likely they were taken and we think it was the Genii. Ronon and Teyla are looking into it. They’ve talked to Dr. Lindsay and have a lead already.”

Calvin stared straight ahead for a moment trying to process what Carson had said. Could it be? Nick was alive? Calvin looked to the doctor his eyes focusing on him.

“Don’t you see, son? There’s a chance we can still bring them back. Teyla and Ronon haven’t returned yet so we might have a chance and from what I hear John and Rodney might get some information.”

“Can I help?” he asked.

“I think it’s best if you stay here for now. When I know more I will let you know. Try to get some rest you look like you need it.” The doctor told him reaching out to him he took his hand and pulled him to his feet. “You might want to try the bed though,” he added with a smile.

“Thank you doctor,” Calvin replied. “For coming to find me.”

Carson nodded. “Get some rest. I have to get back.” he turned and walked to the door stopping at the archway he turned back. “It will be ok,” he advised. “I know it.”

“Thanks.”

Calvin watched the doctor leave eyeing the bed. Sleep wasn’t a bad idea. After the day and the little amount of sleep he had gotten last night a nap didn’t sound so bad.

3:02 pm
Calvin jumped from sleep without thinking he reached for Nick. The bed was empty. He sat up unsure the recalled the events that lead up to him falling asleep. Alone. He looked to the clock. 3:03 his head whipped to the door something was going on he could hear the voices and chaos outside. He rolled from the bed pulled on his boots and left his quarters. He made his way to the Gateroom. Something was happening the horizon was active and a small group of people were coming through. Genii. He eyed them harshly every bone in his body screamed to run in there grab one of them by the shoulders shake them until they told him where Nick was. He looked at them closer they didn’t look well. Were they sick? Weir was there talking to one of them as soldiers surrounded the group. He wasn’t sure was going on but he didn’t think it had anything to do with Nick. He needed to find Teyla and Ronon.

5:13 pm
Calvin had spent the better part of the last few hours trying to get information about Nick. Teyla and Ronon had returned but had little information about who took him. They had left and hadn’t returned. Dr. Beckett was working with the Genii who had radiation poisoning. Calvin was getting restless again.

5:53 pm
He stood outside the control room word had spread that Sheppard and McKay and a few others had been taken hostage by the Genii. Weir was negotiating for their return. He scoffed, fat chance of it working. She was yelling he couldn’t make out the words. Everyone was worried now. He felt the sickness in his stomach. Everyone then went quiet as though waiting for something. He couldn’t stay any longer the waiting was driving him nuts. He needed to walk, anywhere, it didn’t matter. He turned reluctantly from the archway to roam the halls alone.

6:33 pm
They were back. Calvin ran to the Gateroom as he watched Sheppard, McKay and Nick walk through the event horizon. He stood in the doorway his heart raced. Nick was looking around he hoped searching for him. Their eyes met and Calvin’s legs shook. Nick shot him a smile that said it all. I’m fine, it’s ok. Calvin nodded in return more then anything he wanted to go to him grab him hold him. It wouldn’t happen, it couldn’t happen. They had to wait Nick still had to go to the infirmary get checked out and have a mission debrief. Calvin walked back to his room to wait.

7:59 pm
The lights were all on. Calvin sat on the bed pretending to read. He tried not eye the clock but he couldn’t stop. The door whooshed opened Nick walked in. He looked tired but he smiled. “Hey,” he said.

“Hey to you,” Calvin replied he climbed from the bed walking over to him. “Don’t ever do that to me again.” he told him. Calvin crossed his arms to punctuate his point.

“I missed you too,” Nick answered. “I need to shower and get out of these robes.”

“I want something first.”

“What?” Nick asked.

Calvin didn’t answer instead he wrapped his fingers around Nick’s neck bringing him closer. They kissed a simple intimate kiss that deepened before they could stop Calvin pushed Nick against the wall. “Forget the shower,” he told him.

Nick smiled kissing him again. “Tell me about your day,” he whispered as he nibbled Calvin’s neck.

“It was the loneliest day of my life,” he told him. “But not anymore.”

They stumbled to the bed the day all but forgotten.

The End.
