Hear, hear! I started on the pre-med path in college largely because of the whole smart kids go to medical school bs you get in high school. Smart, driven, passionate people will bring all of those things and more to any career path they choose. In the end success is finding happiness and fulfillment what ever that means for you...and what could be smarter, really, than figuring out what makes you happy then doing it.
Although at the end there you are swinging a little too far the other way for me. "Helping others to do likewise" is a laudable path to success but people who's hapiness lies in more a introverted, self focused career path are no less valuable, ambitious or successful if it also brings them happiness.
