First, a little review of the writing I did in 2010.
I think this year I was a little more focused in my writing than I was last year. My biggest project was David Cleaner, which I actually finished. I also did a lot of writing prompts, most of them the last batch I had left for
100originalfics. Of course NaNoWriMo made up a large percentage, but I also added a fair amount on to my novel The Eighth Saimar. This year I started writing some freelance articles for extra money, too, though I didn't do as much work with that as I wanted. I didn't spend any time on my Myrrosta trilogy story except for some outlining (included under "Worldbuilding"), which was actually kind of a big accomplishment. I vowed to get some other stuff out of the way before I spent any more time banging my head against that trilogy, and I did.
Novels
Like most years, I'm going to spend most of my writing time focusing on novels. I want to finish The Eighth Saimar and hopefully Panacea as well. For the first of the year I'm going to focus on the latter, actually. For
novel_bigbang, if it's held this year, I want to finish my YA story Unusual Florida, though if it's not held this year I probably won't work too much on that one. What I really want to do, though, is go back to the Myrrosta trilogy. It's time. First I'm going to give Prophecy's Children a really good edit, and then I'm going to finish Prophecy's Burden. I'm setting aside this year's NaNo for the time being.
Writing Prompts
I'm part of two prompt communities that are pretty active and ongoing: OrigFic bingo on Dreamwidth and
runaway_tales. I'm going to write a lot more prompts for them because I find them valuable for helping me work out worldbuilding and characterization issues.
Freelancing
This year I started doing some freelance work because I need the extra money, and that has worked out pretty well so far. I'm not going to put enough time into it to turn it into a significant cash flow, but I like it for a few extra bucks and some writing practice. I am going to try to expand on the amount of paying work I actually do, though.
Also, I'm going to start doing the weekly writing updates again, just like I do at the beginning of every year. Start taking bets on how many weeks I'll actually be able to keep them going.
And that's it. I feel like every year my writing goals get shorter and more vague, but I actually prefer to think of it as focusing more on stuff I can get done instead of being too ambitious.
