Hmmm.
I was told 19 - 21. Fail.
Is there anything I would need to do regarding my booth at PAC this year, if there's been any major changes?

It's Mon the 14th - Sun the 20th.
Booths would probably be Fri the 18- Sun the 20.
But I'm only on the board. Katie, or one of the coordinators, would be the ones to confirm with. info(at)peaceachord.org is your best bet.

hugs:)

Man, Peace-A-Chord has turned into such a sad, sad, event over the past few years. I remember my first year going. It was a pretty awesome little introduction to St. John's, and some good, half-decent, and not so good bands. Fun, none-the-less. I'd admire that you and Dan Galway (I'm sure he's trying his best) are attempting to alleviate the problems surrounding the festival, but it seems like it might need a fresh start. Perhaps the whole thing should be dropped, and a newer festival can be organized. Peace-A-Chord under the guise of a new name, attitude, etc. etc. etc. The city might be more open to that. It definitely needs to get back to being an entirely outdoor oriented event! No question. The Masonic Temple is not the place for Peace-A-Chord. Is there anyway to organize some sort of upheaval against the city? Say, a march, petition, anything? Would that even matter?

Good luck. It's unfortunate you have very little time to brainstorm ideas.

I don't think that a new festival -- with the same ethos, organizational structure, and feel -- will be anymore acceptable to Council than is Peace-A-Chord itself. It's not just PAC that they have problems with, they throw up road blocks for just about any outdoor concert or music performance (outside of George Street) that isn't the folk festival. The City is hostile towards a lot of artistic movements in St. John's that don't originate from private-sector group-think, some move by the tourism department, or some other arm of the City.

Case in point, the other morning I heard a radio report on the CBC about how council was trying to evict an artist collective who they'd previously given permission to use the property -- they now want to sell the property out from under these artists, after they (the artists) invested their own time and money into fixing the place up.

Remember that time Andy Wells was going to leave for that 'other' job, but then he didn't get it? Oh man, it was too bad he didn't get that job...
