Im working on evaluating new tools to manage my network, I got a question... What network monitoring tools do you use and why?

None... because, who gives a shit? It's working or it isn't, and it's fairly obvious when it isn't. If the bandwidth isn't enough, well tough shit, you can't really get more anyway. Even if you can get more, the problem probably isn't your network but a problem out on internet somewhere which you have no control over. It's a stupid thing to do really.

Nope. Well I can, but consulting costs. Don't complain about free answers.

i hover my mousepoint over the little network icon in my system tray. it indicates whether the network is up.

I use Munin, though more for managing a server than a network. It seems pretty flexible and has plugins for the things I care about (Apache, APC, Varnish, etc.).
