Why Pandora and I will never be friends

I've heard many a people rave about Pandora, the online radio thinger that you somewhat control through picking base songs/artists. They pick music that you might like based on your picks and this algorithm they call the musical genome project. These are the main reasons why Pandora and I just, well, aren't all that compatible ( Read more... )

I tried Pandora for one day and was completely frustrated for all the same reasons you are. If you create a station by using a specific song they don't play that song. It is so stupid. Also, some of the artists I like have some very varied music so a lot of the time the station will go in the completely wrong direction.

Sometimes it freezes in the middle of songs and needs to be reset (holding the middle button and the menu/top of wheel at the same time). Sometimes it skips songs. Sometimes it skips in the middle of songs (from beginning to end, or from middle back to beginning). Periodically it picks songs that it decides to just not play, and that means that sometimes my favorite 25 song playlist gets reduced down to like, fifteen playable songs. And the kicker is that iTunes tells me that it's corrupt and that I need to reformat it, though my computer still recognizes it as a flash drive and I can explore all the files and such, just not through iTunes. Any ideas on how to fix would be much appreciated!
This summer, I'm doing data entry and database management for my dad's consulting firm. They do educational and social service consulting, so it's vaguely related to school. Really it pays decently per hour and it's accessible with flexible hours, so I don't mind it.

I'm trying to avoid reformatting because I'd lose some music for which I don't have backups. I think, though, it will eventually be my only solution. Any ideas how to get music off an iPod? without iTunes?
