Writer's Block: Big Debates

Mar 15, 2009 17:18

i say no. we shouldnt mess with these kind of things. if someone is dying, let them.  its as simple as that,  the world is overpopulated as it is and if we keep helping cure diseases the world is pretty much screwed. and yea i kno let them die thing is pretty harsh, but thats life.
we're born, we live, we die.

government funding, writer's block, stem cell research

The world is heavily populated, sure, but we're not overpopulated. We're not yet above the planet's carrying capacity, and we probably won't be for a long time as long as death rates and infant mortality rates remain high in certain parts of the world, like sub-Saharan Africa.

Also, do you really think the benefits of stem cell research are going to be available to any developing countries, which are the ones with the highest birth and fertility rates? They can't afford it. Keeping people alive in the developed world longer is not going to cause the world to fail. Global warming might, though.

Also, I'm pretty sure your "We're born, we live, we die," attitude isn't going to last if you're diagnosed with terminal cancer.

i see what you mean, gues i didnt think about how much time was in between now and the when we'll be above the worlds carrying capacity

and my atitude wouldnt change if i did get terminal cancer, there's good reason behind it

your answer to this is so, so ignorant. I wasn't going to say anything but you are seriously misinformed. stem cell research can benefit others who don't suffer from terminal illnesses. i have diabetes, but it's not a death sentence.
