I think of LJ as a private blog, rather than a public one. I would not want my LJ to be "found" by the "general public" but if I wanted to write bloggish stuff for public consumption, I think I would go to a more open platform like the ones I see linked on the book of face. Possibly word press?
I would never link my LJ to another site, however - this is my safe haven to hide from the real world.

LJ is my only blogging platform (unless you count Tumblr as a blogging site, which I don't--at least I don't use it as such), so I've got a lot of thinky posts here. I even have a Thinky Post tag. But I'm not trying to connect to the world at large with my online presence, so I approach blogging very differently than most, maybe. Your sentence here perfectly describes my LJ: I blurted out my fannish feelings and cavorted with my friends 'round the world. It's where I discovered many things about myself and branched out in different directions.

Users of online social media platforms get to define "blog" (especially their own blog) however they like. The definitions sometimes have huge differences, and can change in unintended or unexpected ways. That sort of thing is what I love and hate about the internet. It's always changing and forcing us to change with it.

I call it "journaling", not "blogging". To me, "blog" sounds more like trying to attract a fan base, maybe sell some ads. I write to straighten out my thought processes. The best arguments I've gotten into are about discovering logic fallacies one or the other of us holds.

I miss my journaling time these days. I used to go for a long walk and come back and write out my thoughts. Now, no. As soon as it gets above 40 degrees on a regular basis I think I'll add back the two mile walk every morning, though. Maybe even journaling time.
