He stood in her doorway, watching her. Usually he would consider this kind of behaviour creepy. He couldn't figure out exactly what she was thinking, but he knew what she'd been through. That isn't to say that Adam knew exactly how it felt to lose so many people close to him. He just understood her as much as he could.
Kayla was, luckily, in a passive mood. She was perfectly calm, in a friendly environment, and she knew that voice. She turned around.
"Hello." She smiled. "Is there something ... you need?"
She had stumbled halfway through that simple question. Somehow every time she spoke to these people, she felt as if she owed them so much she ought to be serving them. Somehow, it was worse with Adam.

He glanced at the paper behind her.
"Writing something?"
