I know it's just part of the business, but sometimes it gets really annoying how often people will contact you, say they want to commission you, waste a bunch of your time with quotes and details and then just disappear when it comes time to pay and actually get things started ( Read more... )

Hey, I actually need a quick commission. You got a slot with a fairly quick turnaround, by chance?

Ooo, I might! It depends a bit on what it is, what were you looking for?

2 character piece, sketch or clean inked. I'd probably like to pay extra for colour a bit later. My character (Harli) and a friends character (valentines surprise for her).

I could make it a bit cheaper doing sketch lines like these: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9918918/ and the other headshots (which aren't inks, but are fairly clean)!

For something like that (except fullbody), I could probably do this for 35, unless her character is super complex or has wings or something, does that sound fair?

I can't stand that. I have a guy who will text me and we will spend a good chunk of time discussing what he wants and then... he never sends anything. Ugh.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with that crap, too.

I'm pretty sure it's really common amongst all artists, it's just that I've gotten it WAY more often lately than usual. I'm not sure why. I really can't imagine that my prices are too high and scaring people off when I'm charging like 12 for icons and stuff. I just wish they'd be honest and ask for a straight up quote for consideration instead of acting like they totally intend to actually go through with it, and then dropping off once I give them my paypal. e_e

One day I'll be able to prioritize an art piece over more practical things. :( (I do not mean that to come across as badly for people who do; it's just not possible for me right now.) I get that frustration so well...

With my form, that seems to have helped that part of my workflow a lottttt.
I have them fill out what they want, then I get back with a quote or request for more info. If they are waffling, they usually won't fill out the form, or I'll ask that they get back to me when they've made up their minds

I was actually doing it that way before, with a form that they filled out for a quote, but then I stopped getting practically any business at all and people complained. Apparently people see forms as 'impersonal' and would rather you be buddy-buddy with them while getting their info, even though it makes everything take longer and is more inconvenient. I just can't win, lol
