People are fucking stupid.
If you say that a parent deserved what happened to them after their child is kidnapped, raped, abused, killed, etc because they weren't a great parent you are insinuating that the child deserved what happened to them too. (If the parent wasn't the one who harmed their child, of course.) Why is it okay to blame a victim when someone else hurt them?

I guess that kind of ignorance must be incredibly comforting to these people, unless something bad happens to them. In which case they spend quite a bit of time going "Why do I deserve this? Why me? I did everything right! I don't deserve it!" and then they go looking for someone or something else to blame.
