I've long held to the notion that the best response to the Westboro Baptist Crazies is unrepentant mockery. It's the only response they deserve. And they make it so easy.

Wherein the WBC finally jumps the shark.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had. Whatever their motivations, the shark has been jumped. There is no going back for lost waterskis. The doom of millions of rolled eyes is upon them.

I saw that yesterday and my first instinct was to LOL. Oh the iRony.

And then roll my eyes.

If they actually get the guts up to show up? The Applefandom will crush them like the cockroachs they are. Hopefully in a totally legal way.

Honestly, from my observations, the most effective counter-protests are the ones that mock them mercilessly and steal their attention. The Twitter protest was an epic example of people being far more entertaining. The WBC gave up and went home that day.

But they'll show. It might just be 4 or 5 of them with garishly colored signs, but they'll show. They show to EVERYTHING, unless it's in a country they're barred from entering. Which is most of them that aren't the US.

Oh, no, they'd never actually do anything other than protest, wave around obnoxious signs, and threaten to sue the panties off of anyone who makes any aggressive moves towards them. They're attention whores. I doubt they even believe half the crap that comes out of their mouths, they're just saying it so that they can get some camera time.

WBC annoys me greatly. Even overbearing fundamentalists find them obnoxious. The actual baptist Church denounced them long ago. Still, this particular act has made me chuckle over the blatant irony and stupidity of these people. And, I agree, the best response is to laugh at them. But not in front of them, because they are looking for attention of ANY kind. So, I pretty much ignore them in public and laugh at them privately.
