Huh?

Could somebody possibly explain why my friends page suddenly no longer has the ability to go back to previous entries? It's only displaying a full page -1 entry (I should have 20 entries per page; it shows 19). And I can't go back. The link to go back to previous pages simply isn't there. I've tried playing with different layouts, and that's ( Read more... )

Dunno. Just checked mine and it's okay.

Speaking of parties, I'm having a birthday party on the 28th. You and James should come.

Mystery solved; see below. The short version: broken code was broken.

Time? I'm pretty sure we're free that day; hafta see if Kit & Jamie want to carpool.

"official" start time is 7, but I'm opening the house at 3, and we'll decide something to do amongst the people there. Burgers, dogs, and chicken provided. Bring a side if you like, but it's not necessary.

Weird. Mine's fine but I have had that problem before. Which doesn't help you now at all.

ledbylove hit the nail on the head: somebody's entry broke my friendspage. Now that it's scrolled off the front page, it's all back to normal.

Yeah, that's what happened then too, now that I think on it.

Hey, give me a call sometime to remind me when I'm going to weiner-dog-watch. I don't remember and wanna get it on my google calendar.

See you at the cook-out on Saturday?

Someone else on my flist is having the same issue and it's turned out one of her friend's entries is breaking the code, so that's probably the case with yours, as well.

THIS

LJ *TRIES* to do some sanity checking on the content of posts to keep them from breaking things, but it doesn't always succeed. Mostly, in the form of looking for invalid or imbalanced HTML tags.

I think that, if one of the entries in your flist is formatted with CSS (like from an RSS feed) is where you get the spectacular borkage. eg: a div inside the entry being given the same name as a div in your overall template.

Yeah, I've seen it do such things as italic the entire page past a certain point, but I'd never seen it break the skip button before. Gotta love the LJ.

Once, one of my friends dropped a bold and purple font tag. Made my entire flist bold and purple. UGH. I dropped a comment on her post letting her know but it took a while for her to fix it.

By the way, if you manually edit the URL in your address bar, you can skip over an arbitrary number of posts... so,

http://kaymyth.livejournal.com/friends?skip=19

should let you see things starting with the post immediately after the last one you see. (at least, until something new shows up in your flist)

but by fiddling with the skip number, you can figure out which post is the one causing you grief... because once the misbehaving entry isn't being displayed on the current page, everything should render like normal.
