Hi - Thanks for commenting on Patrick's graduation. It was a joyous event in a wild week.
When I started posting again, I promised myself I wouldn't retreat into lurkdom when RL got frisky. So I'm sharing a bit. Read on if you want.
My dad has had lung cancer for a while & has been battling it very well - until recently. A week ago this past Wednesday he had a seizure. At the hospital doctors discovered that the cancer had spread into his brain. He's confused & has got about 6 months. When he comes home he will have hospice care.
The relationship we have with him is complicated at best. It tells you something to know Mike & I only found out about this through a random "check-up" phone call. It's been like that all along. It's safe to say this peculiar relationship is for the best.
Yet despite some dreadful stuff, we can remember good times with with him as well, especially Mike. On the chance that Dad may still recognize us & all, we are heading down to Fletcher, just outside of Asheville, N.C., to see him this Monday & riding back on Tuesday. Mike's still working & is very concerned that we not interfere or cause anyone any stress. It's an 8 hour trip both ways.
I'm more concerned with Mike. He's only 55 & had a heart attack this past February. He is my dearest friend along with being my only brother/sibling. Our childhood bonded us deeply. We were unable to say goodbye to Mom - another complicated relationship - & it is very important he gets this chance with Dad.
The good news with Mike is that he has stopped smoking & is now taking his medication as a result of the heart attack.
So you can see the recent graduation was a Very Big Deal for us. Especially since Pat's older brother, who had once been an academic phenomenon decided to major in World of Warcraft instead of graduating when his turn came a few years earlier. Pat's not a great scholar or anything, just a good kid. Bottom line, who can ask for more than that? Chris is doing ok, has a job & everything, contributes to the household, but it's uncertain that he will ever leave home.
So ... please keep us in your thoughts. Let them be good ones! We would sure appreciate it.
Hugs everyone ...
