So for some reason the last part was too long...I don't think I exceeding the character limit but LJ wasn't pleased so I had to break chapter 8 into two parts. I hope you enjoy!

Oh, our poor boys! Please fix them and make them better. Merlin is struggling, and love uncertain Arthur!

I'll do my best! They really need to sort themselves out, the poor dears. They have a lot of feelings and have no idea what to do with them all!

Thanks for reading! I'm so glad you're enjoying this :)

Oh, wow, I think that may have just broken my heart :-( Please write part 9 to mend my heart soon? It's so sad that Arthur believes Merlin doesn't want him, and that the main reason Merlin won't put him right is this Ian character. I can understand why Merlin won't open up about it, but he really needs to! He and Arthur deserve to be happy together... I'll just go and weep for them quietly now.

Great chapter, as ever :-)

I am terribly sorry for breaking your heart! If I promise to try to put it back together soon, will you forgive me? Unfortunately the boys seem to be writing themselves...I know that's not the best excuse as I, as the (sort of) author, am supposed to have some level of control over them. It's just not happening. They're telling the story here. :p Sorry, I sound a bit mental, don't I?

I do promise to have the next bit finished soon and it may go far towards easing both Merlin and Arthur's pain. Merlin's scared and Arthur's not very good at voicing things and together they've sort of made a mess of things.

Thank you so much for reading! I'm really, really glad to know you're enjoying the story so much! :)

Apology accepted :-) I know what you mean, it's the magic in the characters!

No need to thank me for reading; it's my pleasure! I can't tell you how excited I feel when I see you've updated :-)

To borrow from Bilbo Baggins, with my own alterations: "It's a dangerous business, letting them write themselves. You put pen to paper, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you might be swept off to." Personally, though, I enjoy the being swept off :-)

Can I just say how amazingly wonderful you are for altering that Bilbo Baggins quote to reflect how these things get away with themselves (and I'm not just saying that because I'm sort of a massive LotR geek...)? I think I had a slightly terrifying grin on my face when I read it. Honestly, I may have frightened anyone who happened to glance my way at the time. If I hadn't been in public, I may have squeed. Being swept off, of course, is always the best part :)

I just read this all in one go and its wonderfully written. It totally sucks you in! Im finding on first reaction, though I feel sorry for what Merlins experienced with Ian (presumably he's in denial and lashed out at Merlin?) I feel sorriest for Arthur. He's so in love and Merlin just doesn't seem to care enough about him to take the risk of being with him. If he's scared of losing his friendship, he seems to believe thats happening anyway and rejecting him will make it likelier, saintly and patient as Arthur is. Yet still he rejects him and pretty brutally too looking at it from Arthur's POV.

Maybe Merlin is just too young - too much of a child - to have a sexual/romantic relationship of any kind? He does seem to think like a child - in those absolutes -whereas Arthur seems very much more mature in his own way. Merlin seems more.. 14?

Its a wonderful, thoughtful story...it hurts but its lovely!

Thank you so much! Don't worry, I think they're both more stubborn than we give them credit for. They won't give up, it just might take them making sill decisions. I am so glad you're enjoying it!!

These boys and their overwhelming feelings! Merlin's experience with Ian is keeping him wary about actually going further with Arthur and I have to hate Gaius a bit for pushing the Ian button again and again.

Of course he doesn't know the real truth, but he knows Merlin and Merlin wouldn't be so petty as to hold a grudge this long if it weren't warranted. Ian obviously really, really hurt him and Ian is the reason Merlin has no friends at school and Gaius should just back off.

Arthur, on the other hand, should not back off. He's being the right amount of softly demanding to push Merlin toward letting him in and sharing his fears. I hope Merlin can figure himself out soon. He's really putting Arthur through the emotional wringer. Gah, boys!

They really do have way too many feelings, don't they? Silly boys! I'm so glad you're liking this fic, all of your comments made me smile!! Thank you so much for reading and commenting :)

It's hard for both boys, they really don't have that whole communications thing down, do they? *shakes head* Merlin needs to talk, I think he's been tight-lipped about everything for so long it's hard to break out of that. I doubt Arthur will give up on him. He's a bit too stubborn and pig headed at times. Hopefully it will work in Arthur's favour in this case!

Thanks again! You're lovely and totally brought silly grin to my face. I hope you keep reading and enjoying!
