Hmm, well I've been playing the crap out of the Indigo Girls' 1200 curfews album. I don't know if you're big on Indigo Girls. ^_^
Sufjan Stevens just released an album not too long ago about Illinois (Come On, Feel The Illinoise). It's kind of fun and folk-y.
I've also been listening to the Wicked soundtrack (especially Defying Gravity, What Is This Feeling, For Good), if you like showtunes, and a lot of ABBA, because they're just fun. ^_^ And a lot of country; do you hate country? The good thing about country is that there appears to be only like 12 country songs in rotation at any given time--there is no indie country. So you can just turn on pretty much any country station and listen for awhile. ^_^
Of course you need the Phantom Planet song that the theme for The O.C. ^_^
I don't know what you like but here's a few for ya:
Scissor Sisters, Kasabian, Bright Eyes, the new system of a down, demon days by gorillaz is fan-fucking-tastic, and you could always look here for what other people are listening to.
Good luck on your drive. You should bring a camera for the ride. How many times will you get to drive just about clear across the country?
Of course I have to say that I lovelovelovelove the new Tiger Army CD called III: Ghost Tigers Rise (you may have seen the pic on my lj and xanga alike). Also, you'll want to check out The Refreshments CD entitled Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big And Buzzy. Which is great. Also, you may want to check out the original soundtrack to Guys & Dolls because Frank Sinatra is GOD! :) WOO! There are three specific tracks from System of a Down Id like to recommend: 1. B.Y.O.B 2. Revenga 3. Old School Hollywood For a little interest you may add: 1. The Offspring - Keep 'Em Seperated 2. Sum 41 - Fat Lip 3. The Black Eyed Peas - Hey Mama 4. The Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get it Started 5. Coldplay - The Speed of Sound 6. Look for a song called "Maghroura" I dont know who it's by but it's BANGIN' 7. Nancy Sinatra - Bang Bang 8. The entire Phantom of the Opera soundtrack 9. Green Day - American Idiot (the whole CD)
Hey girl! I'm so excited for you.. you can start a whole new life, a fresh start. I hope it goes great for ya. My friend is just randomly picking up and moving to California in May to work for a year or two with her boyfriend, and of course a change of scenery so maybe I'll be visiting you if you're near her!
Anyways, on to music
I just got the new Mariah Carey CD, I've only listened to 2 songs so far but Im sure its fun. The new Foo Fighters CD I listened to clips of in a music store and it sounds incredible. More stuff I've been actually listening to lately... O.A.R, Pepper, Fuel, Garbage, Live.....for the modernish stuff. You should make a fun 80s pop CD, like Wham and Pat Benetar, and a Soft Rock CD, like "Deliah" music- Lady in Red and those lovey songs. Some loud random techno for when your tired or going crazy.. Hmm thats all I can think of, but download whole random cds of people you've only heard of, that way I'm sure you'll discover at least a few bands/artists that you'll fall in love with. =)
I just thought of something, watch those infomercials that talk about CDS for like an hour. I usually do and just write down songs from it, or u can actually go online and type it in and on some website they'll have a list of songs on the cd.. Like Monsters of Rock and Love Songs and crap.
