Kindle question

My gf thinks Kindle isn't "real" publishing.

Know anyone who got a print deal after starting on Kindle?

I'm... not really sure what you mean? Because lots of books that have been published in paper are also on the kindle. I have about 1/3 of my star trek collection in electronic form now.

Kindle format is just another form of electronic publishing. It requires a special format and the amazon version of an ISBN number, but that's about it. Don't get me wrong, it still takes money and publishing houses have a much easier time getting their stuff on kindle in much the same way vanity publishers rarely make it to the big leagues or have large printings.

Hello, hope you don't mind my posting a comment, but yes, I do believe I rmember reading on the Kindle forums that there was someone who had published their novels as Kiddle editions and then were picked up by a publisher. I'm sorry I don't remember the details, but you may consider going over to the forum and lurking around or posting this question there.

Good luck.

Ah, one question that's actually work relevant for me, I'm digital rights manager for a publisher! Basically, e-book self-publishing is the same as self-publishing in paper format, just cheaper and more easily available to all. Publishers might pick up on a very successful self-published title, no matter the format, hard-copy or e-books, and buy the rights to publish their own edition, but the cases are fairly rare.

Of course, publishers can sell e-book kindle versions of their books, amazon often does the conversion for them, if they want to. But this is not always the case, some are more reluctant about joining the e-book race than others.

My cousin that you met at my Arbonne party got a book deal with a publisher, but they *required* her to make a website before the book went to print. Due to the format of the book, it won't work on Kindle, but the electronic copy *was required first*. :) Hope that helps.
